on my way home from the mall around the corner I pull away at a robot, hear a thud and suddenly no power. Accelerator pedal hardly responsive.

Then this error pops up

Drive it home gently as suggested, have a look under the hood once I get home and find this:

Anyone else experienced this?

It's an '11 e92 335i with n55

Boost pipe seems like it's given up. I'm sure there would have been a clamp on there right. Wonder where it's gone...

what a relief when you find some thing simple,im sure once we see those warnings all the worse thoughts pop into our heads.

Sure, but why would this happen on a stock motor with stock boost? Perhaps previous owner had a jb4 :hammerhead::thumbdo:

Was more common in tue n54 but has occured on n55's as well.

More common on tuned cars but does also occur on stock cars. If your car is out of plan, look at replacing with the ER ones.

This ain't a stress bud. If you on plan get bmw to send a flat bed and get a new one.

If not as six has suggested just get an upgrade. There is no clamp to hold onto the intake manifold, but there is clip that hold it in place and I don't see yours there.

I had the same error on my car about 2 weeks ago.
My e92 v8 m. Let's just say I'm not so lucky.
I have to replace both my throttle actuators. So I'm selling my kidneys to raise the money :hammerhead:

It's a relief to hear about non tuned cars for sure. I looked a bit deeper last night and spotted the circlip and the rubber o-ring laying on the splash guard. Kinda refitted it all but obviously it doesn't secure to the tb. Car is still drivable out of boost but it's not very happy naturally. Some fluctuating idle etc as well.

Trying to get a booking with bmw but with this free holiday car checkups they are so full and no courtesy cars available.

Agreed it's a fairly simple problem and I'm relieved it will be an easy fix.

Sorry to hear about your situation on the m3 shay shay. Had a slightly similar issue on my hr z. Removed both throttle bodies to gain access to spark plugs and those sensitive little buggers both needed replacement after being disturbed. Go figure.

Let's hope the intake backfire didn't bend the throttle body plate or else you in for a new one of those too.

Car is under plan so not too stressed yet. Most annoying part is the downtime....

Don't think there was any backfire. Out of curiosity why would that happen tho?

It's rather strange that it would happen to a car with direct injection as the fuel should be confined to the combustion chamber. As to why it happened I'm unsure but guys who run NOS run the biggest risk. I remember several years back Jakes from JDM Tuning was running NOS on his crx and experienced an intake backfire which blew his throttle body plate into a 90 degree shape.

Why are you even suspecting an intake backfire at all?

Like I said I didn't hear a backfire, just a thud from the pipe coming loose and hitting the engine bay wall and a simultaneous loss in power, loss in throttle response followed by the error message....
