Damn, I don't enjoy being jealous! Um, apart from that I've got nothing. I know a lady who was in Boston during the winter and had a brief trip in New York and all she said was it's bloody cold and bloody expensive. So pretty much pointless advise cause that you already know. enjoy the trip though and when you come back tell us what a first world country is like!

If you've never been before or never experienced that level of cold - imagine what extreme cold is, then triple it. Get a proper thick jacket, gloves and some form a head cover - anything exposed will freeze and potentially fall off :)

Other than the cold and the exchange rate, it's a great city with plenty to see and do

Never been on a plane, never left SA so it's all going to be new to me.

The ZAR/USD thing is hurting my bum already.

Thanx lads!

Thanx lads!

Take a pillow or buy one of those neck pillows for the plane - the one you get on the plane is pretty terrible. Also, bring your own entertainment on a tablet or something because those in-flight systems can be a bit iffy sometimes - definitely makes the time go by faster :)

+1 on the gloves! Some thick hoodies and a wind breaker over the layers!
:coolShake:

Just make sure no water gets into your shoes - Personal experience - Through kicking ice, the residue left on the shoes, melted and seeped through to my socks (Got carried away)
:smashScreen:

It's an awesome place! Broadway theatre is a must and 'The Blue Man Group'.
Check out some youtube videos on the group, I went with my family when I was about 18 :)

Is it work or holiday?
We were on holiday in NY in November.
only spent 4 days
- saw the recording of Trevor Noah TDS live
- watched the phantom of the opera on broadway
- did tons of walking
- took a taxi cab, bus and train to all the usual tourist attractions
- boat trip down the hudson

what we did not do due to no time
- shopping - look for a burlington coat factory or retail outlets stuff was cheap
- take to tour of the whole of centralpark - we only saw the bottom part
- tour of the 911 memorial - we only walked around the area
- take a tour of all the surrounding areas, bronx, queens, brookland

Best to try and stay close to times square.

Two weeks is a LOT for NYC. I spent a week and it was plenty.

May I suggest catching a train to Washington DC for 2-3 days. It's not expensive and breaks up the time in NYC nicely.

Im sure, u'll get good tips on things do so I won't give u must
there. For cheap shopping (well, cheap is relative when you're staring at R15 to the dollar) take a tip to Woodbury Commons... It's a massive outlet mall. Buy the discount booklet for $10. You can add discounts in the USA unlike in SA. None of that nonsense about deals that can't be used in conjunction with any other offer, etc.

Most of all, soak in the city. The vibe is amazing!

Oh, one last thing, if u can, Google "The Ride" and take that bus tour on your first couple of days... It's good fun.
