OBD Scanner

Hi, I have an issue with my 2010 E87 and I'm looking for a scanner to check for faults. I'm pretty sure it uses the latest CAN Bus.
With the thousands of scanners out there can someone please recommend one that will do the job.

It just depends on your budget.
A very basic handheld system goes for R350.00 on ebay.
I am using Icarsoft and it goes for R2000.00 on ebay

Thanks, I am looking for a basic one. Just not sure on the spec to get. I went to a local workshop but his machine didn't pick it up. He told me it was can bus and his machine was too old?
