OBC advised services

Hi,

So my F30 320d LCI was last serviced at 10,000km (Sep 2018), which was 1 year since it was new (Sep 2017 model). As a side note, I bought the car as a low miler demo (under 50km) in Jan 2018.

The car is currently at 29,000km (now is May 2019). This is 19,000km since the last service. The OBC says service due in next 7,000km (or by March 2020) - which would mean a whopping 26,000km since the last service.

On all my other cars (all petrols), the cars were required to be serviced at 15,000km (max 1 year) intervals, on my Audis and Mazda. My Ford and Volvo had 20,000km service intervals (max 1 year).

I would assume that turbo diesels would need at least 15,000km intervals, especially given the high frequency of traffic driving that I do on weekdays. The car does have around 50-100km open road driving on weekends, though.

Anyway, I just feel that 26,000km (or 18 months between services) since the last service is pretty daring.

The car is still on plan.

Any views on this?

Bmw wont pay for servicing until the OBD warning is triggered.

I agree, the service interval on the new beemers is too long. 15 000ks intervals is what i would do.

HOWEVER, your car is still "new" and i would wait for the service warning to come on....unless you feel the performance of the car is affected.

Car is designed to last till 100 000km only with these intervals in mind.

Why would they make it last longer, they want you to buy a new one at 100 000km.

Strategy ;)

Slip in a sneaky diy service every 10000km. No way they can pick up on it and you guarantee longer engine life.

I suppose nothing stops you from booking a paid oil service?

I seem to have made a mistake when reading my first service mileage. It was around 15,000km, not 10,000km.
So, the implied service interval (according to computer) is about 20,000km from last service.
Still not ideal, but not as bad as the 26,000km interval I had thought it was.

If I intend to keep the car beyond the motorplan, I will service it at 15,000km intervals rather.

I would do as Maxxis suggested: A DIY oil service in between at 10k. If you don't want to DIY, just buy the OEM oil/oil-filter from BMW and take it to a reputable workshop - should take them 30 mins.

Under MP, BMW generally won't service it any earlier than due.

They will and they do, but you pay for the service. ceda isle and Northcliff Auto have done an early oil service for me a couple of times while my car was still under plan.

Thanks for the clarity. Out of interest, do they reset the OBC if you want a "halfway 10k" oil change between your 20k intervals?

My X3 goes in two times a year, they do different items each time. I do around 12000kms a year. I just send it in when i'm prompted to by the OBD.

I didn't want to take a chance of someone resetting the OBC, so i always made sure to tell them not to reset anything when I make a booking and when I drop off the car. you can speak with the service advisors responsible for your car

Hi,

So my service indicator says that I have 4,000km (or 03/2020) until my next service. The car is currently at just over 30,500km.

How many kilometres before the the target/scheduled service can I book my car in for the service and not get charged by BMW under MP? With Audi, they allowed me 1,500km before the scheduled service.
