noise in engine driving me mad

Hi all, I drive a 325i E90 series and when the car is idling and I open the bonnet I here a noise at the back of the engine. It sounds like hydraulic lifters but when I took the car in to bmw mafiking(north west) they told me it is a small motor that is making that sound and it is because it is a 6 cylinder and it is in all the 325i series bmw's. I would just like to find out, if that is true or not. Thanks and enjoy the day.

Fanie, read the entire post of Frikkie.
His last post on his last page states that the car is still doing it, and he is thinking of taking the car back to the agents for this. :thumb:

thanks, I went through his post now, but the thing that conserns me is that the bmw agents told me that the sound must be there and that is what I am trying to find out from other 325 owners if they have the same noise and if anybody managed to get rid of the sound and how, so that I can go back to the agents and tell them they are wrong.

Take a video so we can hear.

Take her on the open road, like to Durban and back. My 330i had a ticking sound and after the road trip, it's gone.
It was so bad that I thought it was a piston-slap or something bad, but after the road trip, she's fine.

Thing is, this is a known issue with some of these engines, but I know in particular the N52 engines had this problem. There is a very long and comprehensive thread about this on the E90Post forum - I think I posted a link to this on Frikkie's thread. But some of these affected engines really sound quite bad and the noise is very loud, a metal ticking sound!

The cause is apparently the hydraulic lifters and in most cases if under motorplan they should repair this or replace the entire cylinder head in some cases. I also posted some links to a few videos to hear what some of these affected engines sound like - difficult to use since the sound is affected by how the camera or phones microphone picks up the noises.
