I got the 7000 :thumbs: the 7100 is the predecessor the D7000

Good camera. but still expensive though

On the other hand you know what you are getting for that price

Yeah it looks good on paper:thumbs: But costs 5k more than the D7000. Although it's tempting, I'm not keen on throwing around that kind of cash without some proper reviews or first hand experience from people who have one already:yuck:

Also none of the local camera shops have stock of it so I can't test it out before buying, besides the online stores like Orms are more than 2k cheaper than the shops here.

They rated the D 7000 as one of the Best cameras ever :thumbs: There is a lot of reviews available on the net.

If this is an Upgrade it can only get better :fencelook:

Yup, I wanted to get a D7000 initially, but I was holding off on it because of the release of the D7100. I didn't realize there'd be such a huge difference in price, but then again some sites reckon that it's not a replacement, but rather a new flagship DX model that combines features of the D7000 with the D600

I don't think I'd sell it. Will probably keep it as a backup camera. What initially started off as a hobby is starting to take off as a part time thing:rollsmile:

Oh and why did you get a 55-200? If I were you I would've went for an 18-200. Much more versatile imo.

It's a great camera to start off with, but as you start taking more challenging shots you starting noticing it's limitations. It's treated me well over past 2 years, but me thinks its time for a change:rollsmile:

The best thing I like is this model has two thumb wheels, one on the back of the Nikon D7100 camera right above where your thumb will naturally go, and one just below the shutter button where your index finger will naturally be, so you can use the back one to adjust shutter, and the front to set aperture, this makes it extremely easy to use in manual mode, so easy in fact I almost always shoot this way.

The d7100 other than processing power really is a completely different camera, I love it, very Happy. I use this camera both commercially as well as just plain fun.:idea:

The biggest thing for me with this camera, is the lack of the AA filter. That should help pixel peeping sharpness!

Awesome. Thanks. Yeah adjusting aperture is a bit of a pain with my d3100. You have to hold down the aperture button with your index finger while moving the dial at the back with your thumb. What lens are you using with the camera? Would you mind uploading some sample shots that you've taken?

One of the things I would've loved on the 7100 is a swiveling screen but its not a deal breaker though. I also would've loved a slightly faster burst mode although 6fps should be enough for my needs. Other than that it looks like an awesome camera on paper.

No point in the 55-200 lens. There is a new one out now 18-300 thats amazing!! You'll never need to change lenses unless going for a spesific application.

Bavs if you were in jhb id say go look at sandtoncity-cameraland was playing with it this weekend, GREAT camera. Check out their website maybe aswell usualy they hav lots of reviews on there from clients

Hey Doc. Unfortunately I'm not in JHB. Do you know how much they're selling it for? I see it on their website, but they only have the bundled one with a lens.

Anyone bought from this place before? It's the cheapest I've seen so far, but it's not on their website:

The 18-300 is a very versatile lens, but imo if you can afford that I would rather go with a 24-120 f4. I had a Sigma 18-200 and it was average. The problem with long range lenses is that you don't get consistent sharpness across the entire range. The sweet spot is usually somewhere in the middle of the range.

Not sure what they selling for i didnt ask coz i just got my 7000 a while back from them was just playing! But if im there again ill ask them and let you know ive usually found their prices very good!!

Agree on the longrange sharpness but its a great travel buddy!

The d7100 is a great camera there is no doubt, but it really is meant for sports/action shooters with the additional 1.3x crop factor and additional speed (Canon's old 7D still is the benchmark though). Also because of the huge 24 megapixel sensor you need good glass to maximize it's potential. Read reviews where they have taken the standard 18-105 kit lens on the d7000 (which is a very very good lens for its price) and images where average on the d7100. Depends on your budget really, the d7000 is the best value for money amateur/semi pro camera on the market now, I have one and even with the kit lens it takes amazing images. :thumbs:

i'm still running on my d90 Kit... I've just managed to check that I've done 8500 actuations in 2 years.... and I've still got enough of time to go... 7100 should be flippin awesome from the reviews I've read...

Well if I had to get one ill be getting the body only. I already have the best glass Nikon has to offer for DX cameras which is the 17-55 f2.8 and a 35mm f1.8. I doubt I'll use the 1.3 crop feature though. I need to justify getting the 7100 over the 7000 as the price difference is quite significant. From the reviews that I read they say the 7100 is quite a huge upgrade from the 7000 and although its an excellent camera it's also 2 years older so the 7100 has the upper hand when it comes to the image processor and overall newer tech. Decisions decisions:fencelook: I will wait a month or so to see if any specials pop up.

How do you check your actuations? I used one of those photo uploading sites a while back and it placed my actuations on around 16000 in 2 years. Should be around 20000 by now:fencelook:
