Have been trying to score points with the drift section of Shift2, but either my accelorator pedal setup is not right or i am just not good enough. Cars will just not drive like on some other games. Either too much juice and spin out or not enough to make a decent spin. Have any of you guys mastered drifting?

Hahah this is the first game (along with Shift 1) where the drifting hasn't been as easy as just flicking the wheel and flooring it like some games. Presents some level of challenge.

i had limited success with the drifting won a few challenges the easiest car to drift was a nissan with no mods
need to practice throttle and steering controls to get it right i still use a hand controller will get my Logitech steering setup the end of the month

I was SSSOOooOOOooo looking forward to Shift1 and 2, but for me they both fail with the handling. I'm not a very big gamer, but I've always liked the NFS series and I've always been able to play the games on my keyboard. This is not the case with Shift at all. The delay in the steering is pathetic. So after some reading on the net it seemed that the game reacted way better with a steering wheel. I don't have one. Again, I'm not a big games and as such it's never been worth it for me to get the steering wheel and stuff. I figured I'd try and fool the game into thinking I have a steering wheel. I used an emulator to emulate a steering wheel, windows installed the drivers, and the game is none the wiser. Now I use the mouse for steering and even though it was better, the steering just won't react in a nice and fast enough manner. Just imagine your car reacted the same way in the real world.

Anyway, apart from the steering which has a mind of it's own, the game is actually pretty good. Most Wanted was the most fun though. Finished that game loads of times and usually in one day.

I use a Logitech steering wheel (had some difficulty in finding one at the various gaming shops and eventually bought one off Gumtree for R1000)
With the steering wheel the car reacts instantly and i have no problems driving on the circuits. It is only with the drifting which is extremely difficult.

Only thing I hate about NFS Shift 2 is that it's a console port to PC so it lacks a lot of cool stuff that the 1st one had. Good game though and a steering wheel is a must, just extremely difficult with a keyboard.

What does it lack?

NFS Shit 1 had a MUCH better HUD with the whole points system at the top and an accurate instrument cluster when using the camera at the nose of the car. The driving felt slightly better/less assisted on the 1st game.

I'm not saying 2 is a bad game, I am still enjoying it. The graphics are definitely a big step down from the 1st PC version.

I had a hack on the PC to make NFS Shit 1's handling more like a simulator like GTR. I really found the non-linear steering response detracts from the game...

Yea, I had that issue with 1 too. They have improved on it slightly for 2 but it has that arcade element.
