Hi Peeps,

I am now part of the Mini family :D
About 2days ago i acquired a 07 (last of the supercharged) R53 cooper S,
it has 79k kms on the clock... awesum lil car :), i am actually impressed how manly it feels.. meaty clutch and gearshift and ofcos an awesum direct steering wheel.

I have a few questions tho about, how 2 drive with the supercharger, how do you know if its warmed up? and Do you have 2 idle the car a lil bit after driving hard 2 let the supercharger cool down?

Also i noticed on uneven surfaces the car feels rather twitchy... is this because of the direct steering and is this normal? or is this sumthing else?

Hope i'll b making sum new friends here :)

Hi WELCOME:wave:

Yeah its not such a girly girl car as everyone makes it out to be.

If you have been driving your car at a moderate ,slow pace for about 5mins your car should be fine/warmed up.

As for idling your car after driving it hard I always let it idle for a min or two to be safe.....rather safe than sorry...

The reason for your car being twitchy is quite obvious its a race car so everything is hard ,responsive,......

great stuff hope you have many happy miles

One thing you will need to do is post some pics in the showroom thread..

Congrats on the car and many happy miles..

If you are on runflats then the car will also be a bit twitchy.
In fact my previous car which was a M7 Fiesta Titanium was also twitchy on uneven surfaces and those weren't runflats, so I guess it also has to with how low the profile is too.

Thanks dude, I guess you always gotta be extra alert.
I read up that from 2005 onwards there are lots of changes made to the cooper S,including supercharger however I've also read that you had the option of specing a LSD, does any1 know if this was available in SA?

Yea they made some changes with the "facelift". They changed the gearbox and rear light cluster arrangement. Not sure if they changed the SC. I know the SC got upgraded with the JCW package.
As for the LS, it apparantly had to be fitted from new. A friend of mine bought a '06 JCW from new and wanted to fit an LSD after a few months but BMW said they wouldnt do it.

well i read that the sc in the 05 model is the same as the jcw, i believe it uses a different pulley hence boosting less? and it makes 126kw opposed to the pre 2005 models making 120kw? Kinda hoping mine was bought brand new with a LS :D, i gotta find out from bmw tho.
