Welcome bud.

Had a similar issue in my 2004 318i, wrote it off before I had the issue fixed.

I believe its the VVT motor that is faulty.

Mine used to have the lag only after a cold start, once it warmed up it was fine. As time went on, the issue became more and more prevalent.

If it's only after it's cold, then take that as a warning because you never hammer a car while cold anyways. But, it's more than likely faulty vanos solenoids as I have seen alot of people complaining about hesitation on the 318 with faulty vanos solenoids

I have checked on Google how it looks and so on, but there seems to be a few of them, or is it the same thing with lots of names? and where will i find it on the 2004 318i? thanx for all the help so far.

What's your last 7 digits of your vin? You could just check here -> realoem.com

Check here, second line -> http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=ET76&mospid=47633&btnr=11_3296&hg=11&fg=15&hl=2

You will probably pay around R1400-1800 for it, so just make sure first, if you are in or near Centurion I will help you out with running diagnostics before you go and buy the part.

Also, if the car hesitates under 2500rpm then most probably vanos, could be seals or the solenoid. What's the KM on the car? Maybe post the issue as a separate question, will get more attention
