New method in proving problems to the dealers

I have a little story I thought I'd share with you guys. So after having my front and rear discs, pads, sensors and handbrake shoes changed my car would occasionally make a scraping sound. The sound would't change if I applied brakes etc.

So I took it right back to the dealership and went for the drive with the workshop manager who assured me this is normal for new pads and discs. So I asked why then is the pitch of the sound not changing when I apply brakes. "oh it might be the handbrake shoes but do 1000km first and then come back".

Ok anyway the sound became more intermittend and then only occured after enthusiastic driving (when brakes got hot). So I booked it in to the dealership but before dropping the car off I first got out my beloved gopro hd cam and strapped it to the side of my car and made a video of the sound.

<iframe width="425" height="349" src="
" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

So when I got to the dealership they all watched the video and assured me that this was not "normal". Anyway the problem has now been resolved, they removed all discs, pads, sensors and even the handbrake shoes. It turns out there was a little stone stuck in the rear left brake caliper.

Personally I think without the video they would have just said oh ok we will see, but because I had "proof" they were under a bit of pressure.

I also take vids of odd sounds cos all mechanics look at you as if your crazy when you say that the car is doing something it shouldn't. But with a vid they can't just say, Oh it's normal.

Its the go pro motorsports edition so it comes with a rubber suction mount which is rated up to 200mph, I've only tried it up to half that and it works perfectly.

Hmm so it would seem that the dealers also acknowledge the global rule of pic/vids or it didn't happen

Glad you got it sorted in the end

You can get them locally but you need to be carefully because there is a Gopro HD Hero and a Hero 960 HD the one is Full HD the other is the equivalent of 960p. Most places locally are selling the older product that isn't as good.

When buying just make sure you can record at 1920x1080 and 1280x720 @ 60fps also check what mounts are included.

I found this...

http://www.goprosouthafrica.co.za/Dealers - Gauteng.html

I bought mine in the US got it for $249 including a 32gb SD card and all the extra mounts. ASFAIK they have gotten cheaper here, should be able to pick up a motorsports one for about R3k.
