new BMW M3 (2014)

Hi guys,

Well I guess this is my first post.
And I would also like to mension, unfortunately, I do not drive a BMW myself. I drive Hyundai Tiburon and Toyota Supra, but my good old friend, Preetjies, drives a 318i! And what a joy to drive with him! (As we work together)

Well, what I can say is: I'm definitely a BMW fan. As I'm a petrol head, I love the 335i, 135i and M3's offcourse!
(If I could afford it, I would've bought all three models lol haha)

So I walked passed in Spar, saw the June 2012 "CAR" magazine, and what did I SEEEE....A BRIGHT YELLOW M3. (Posing with the red VW GTI - smaller picture!)
And I immediately turn to the M3 article. :blab:

They are restoring it back to a 6 cylinder motor. More powerful and lighter. (And hopefully more fuel efficient?!)
Also rumours are told the the M-division may be putting on a twin-turbo setup (90-degree, V6) or a classic inline six with three small turbo's.

CAR Mag: "In theory, 60-degree V offers the best primary balance for a six, however a 90-degree angle is required for the turbo's to fit. BMW must then solve this imbalance issue either balance shafts or a unique firing order, as it did with the V10 in the M5."

Outputs:
320kW and 550N.m of torque :tease:

"Also, there is debates inside Munich over possibility of renaming the 3 Series Coupe's and convertible's as the 4 series."

I'm very excited about this new M3. but the name "M4" doesn't work for me. It's like breaking the history/culture of the whole M division of the 3 series......:yuck:

I want to see this monster eat up everything. :praise:

If they name it M4... I am writing my will, selling all my shit, buying a one way ticket to Munich, and assassinating all the BMW CEO/Director's for destroying its history...

looks hot :inlove:...it will be more fuel efficient..6 cylinder turbo'd v 8 cylinder natural...the shift now is to lower emissions, and thus lower emissions tax..even the F30 328 is now a 4 cylinder turbo..awesome to drive but not everybodies cup of tea...especially those enthusiasts who love naturally aspirated cars...

Welcome to the Forum Rommies! I think the reason they dubbed it the M4 is because they broke away from the whole N/A motor and juiced it up with turbos which is a first. Of course I'm just spitt ballin here!

Thanks, Yes she is really great. Fun to drive.
I hunted her for a whole year...and guess what...?!
She is actually registered and legal on the roads.

But I'll guess I'll trade her in for 3 x M3's to join you guys for the next run? :biglol: lol

Well at least you know the 4door will be called the M3. I got a feeling they will call the M3 2door - M3 Coupe
But that being said reliable sources have told me its gonna be an M4.

Not a fan of the M4 name.
Last time I heard the new 3 series coupe will be named a 4 series, but thankfully the guys at M is totally against naming the new M3 coupe a M4.
I think they should stay with the 3 series coupe name but BMW want all their coupe like cars named in even numbers( 6series, 8series, X6 future X4 and X2).

But what really matters is the car and I think it is going to be a monster.
Its going to be much lighter than the current M3(Power makes you fast in a straight line, decreased weight makes fast in a straight and around corners) and it is possibly going to have 3 turbos and one of them are maybe going to be an electric turbo(no turbo lag).
Long live the straight 6!!!

No the previous owners registered her. What a F**** mission. They told me it took them 3 years+ and I still don't know how they did it.
Because a lot of things changed. Apparentely, the only way you can get an import registered (now a days), is when you move from a neighbour country to RSA. Then you have to show them that you owned the car for 2years+ and proof of residentship etc. etc.

OR
someone died in your family, and their death policy said that they give you ownership of the car.

Otherwise you can bring an import in, have to know someone in neighbour country (register it on their name and address) then you have to re-register it every year. (and have to travel over the boarder every year)

Long story short, it's really a schlep to get a Supra,Skyline etc. registered. If my supra wasn't registered, I wouldn't have bought it anyways. Whats the use of having a car and can't drive it?
(except if you do racing/drag)

A electric turbo? hmmm....(i'm not a fan of that though)
like these electric superchargers...i red quite a few of people trying this and everyone seems to be againts it and says it's a waste of money? I don't know. It can only be their opinion and I don't have the knowledge about these electric super/turbo chargers anyway.

Who knows....BMW has always suprised us about technology and design.
