Good morning
My Battery gave in Yesterday. Completely. I have to buy a new one but I have no idea what to get that wont cost me an arm and a leg. I drive a E90 335i, N55. I heard I have to take the car in after I install the battery to have some settings done regarding the Smart Charge or something like that. Please advise me on which battery to get and perhaps where to go to have everything adjusted according to the battery. I live in the Vaal Triangle.

How do you know its the battery thats finished?

Is the car under motorplan? If so take it to the dealer to sort out.

If out of MP get a new quality battery from a reputable dealer such as Battery Centre or Hi Q or such...who should supply you with the correct capacity replacement.

New batteries require registration and if amperage is different to the original battery it may even require coding...but the car will drive even if you cant have it done immediately.

just get one from your local dealership. it might be a bit more expensive, but the warranty is better and you know it's the right one.

It is extremely important to do the battery registration or else your new battery wont last.
When my battery went out, I got an original from Battery Center. They were R 400 cheaper than the dealer.
But then you need to get someone to do the registration for you.
Maybe some fanatics might point you in the direction of someone who can do the registration for you.

Good Luck!

Got original battery for my e46, at Leo Haese Pretoria, before John and Leo Haese were even part of the Bmwfanatics, and paid R85 more than at battery centre or at Willards batteries.

no idea what the registration thing is you talking about...

That said, I'm running a 3000w monoblock amp and 1400w subwoofer since 2007, and the original battery was BMW installed 2003, replaced it August 2013.

Current battery no issues so far

Same here, also running sound and the original only gave out recently, replaced with BMW one, roughly same price as other options.

With a dealer, you have two year guarantee on parts and labour, rather go that route...my 135 needed a battery , worked out R400 more for the coding than a VArta agent...but t the peace of mind is worth it

A new battery can cost anything from R1200 upwards. If you have a JB4, the latest firmware has a battery reg feature.

Thank you very much. I do have a JB4 and never knew I could do the registration with it.

Just make sure its the same capacity battery as your OEM one. If not then it needs to be coded...which the Jb4 cant do.
