i think its time to put those cats down there really is no down side unless you worried about acid rain...
i did research into this before i decided i dont need my cats anymore...
cats are not efficient under most driving conditions they only work properly when you are at low rpm and they at the right temperature so even if you put new ones in you will still not save the rain forest...

just take them out and enjoy the benefits of not having them

I had a 2001 325i, decatted the manifold (both) she had a bit of a rough idle for 30sec's when started cold which evened out as the Lumda sensor corrected the ECU. Performance was up, and so was fuel effieciency... I say go for it. Goosy from BW Tech is a friend of mine, he knows BMW's back to front. You can take what he says as gospel.

Thx guys for the feedback, alot of ppl say removed it but i will still need the sensors, some say just scrape the cat inside and replace the sensor and you done, some say removed cat and sensors, what the the computer is saying is sensor nr2 wich is the one after the cat, waht the car is doing, sometime when you pull away it shutters, they told me its overfeuling sometimes you dont get away at all, wait unitll it reps up then you can go or swithed off and start agian to pull away, so when im at a traffic sign I must ref it to about 3-4rpm to make sure i wont get stuvk in the middle of the road and local its heavy on fuel long road about 9.5\100l wich is also abit tomuch, it a e46,318i,2002, thank you once again

Hi Guys,
just reading in this conv.
Can someon eexplain what is meant by removing the "Cats".
How is this done? do you have to make up a new ex manifold?

the reason i ask, is one of my ex manifolds has been smashed due to a brick on the high way.
I think smashed half way. my car dose have a miss.

Regard
Shaun

What car do you drive?
Removing the cats refers to removing the catalytic converters in the exhaust system. To remove the cats in the exhaust manifold you can either replace the manifold, cut of the cats and replace with downpipes, or just have the stuff inside the cats removed.
Having the codes read would be the best first step to determine why the car has a miss.

Hi guys, Im new here...
I have a 2001 e46 318i steptronic auto.
It doesn't have power and very heavy on fuel. Can only drive 80km/h uphill on the highway. Could it be the cats?
I did change the coils, air intake sensor, and one of the cats (the big one in the middle) but the problem persists. Also had a diagnostics done with no errors coming back.
PLS HELP...:bangdesk:
