Need quite some help with my paint repair...

Hi there guys

Just last December I went to have a look at my local(60km away) paint repairer (Authorised by my local BMW Dealership-also 60km away). Damage was to the two bottom areas near the fog lights. My car has the M-sport package so it was really difficult avoiding these damages. I got a quote for almost R3000 inc. labour. I haven't notified the dealership of my visiting to the paint shop nor have I made a claim on insurance and have decided to pay cash. Only problem is...I have to keep my car in for 3 DAYS at the paint shop. The damage isn't that much but the paint shop is one of probably 2 in the area and has a high flow of customers. This being my only car has somehow made things a bit difficult... Any ideas on how I could still actually have a car to drive? apart from rentals?

Check with the shop if they have a temp bumper they can put on while they repair yours - you never know what they have lying around if you don't ask. It might be a different colour, but at least you'll have you car while they do the repairs on your bumper.

Also, most largish panel beaters offer rental/loan cars - check with them too. Maybe they can make a special deal for you with the loan car and your repairs for a decent price.

Two to three days is what it takes, I also quote three days,

Simply because to do it properly, you must let the primer dry properly, 6 hours minimum, So day 1 they strip and repair, 2nd day paint in the morning, and polish in the afternoon.

If the paintshop/booth is busy, they may only polish on the 3rd day, so the time quoted is correct.

The 3k is expensive though.

As for the rental, most of the panel shops have got agreements with the rental companies for subsidized rentals, talk to them.

even if you get a c(h)ity golf for two days at 185 a day, it solves your issues.
