Need advice on buying a M

Hi Guys

I am in the market to buy another car preferably a E92 M3 DCT.

I would appreciate any advice on what to look out for when viewing and driving the car because I don't really know much about these cars.

Thanks :)

Everything you look for in a E46 M, plus the E9x's throttle actuator issues and shudder at pull away from dct.

I test drove one this morning it did shudder a little when i took off on an incline and reversed on an incline it did concern me.

Test drive a manual and a dct first before you buy. As a purist, I wouldn't swap my manual for dct, but thats personal choice.

Cannot agree more!
If its a dct, then yes, look for a slight shudder.
Also make sure you don't get any noise from the diff

It should be totally shudder free imo. Mate on another forum had a shudder that got progressively worse. Gearbox fluid change, then a clutch change, then a gearbox change before it went away, there was a propshaft change aswell but it was unrelated. If you wish i can find out if he is still looking to sell it. It's a silverstone saloon iirc. He was looking at 370-390k iirc. Millage is low 80's last time i asked. Another also has it, but he is fine with it since he plans on flogging before Mplan goes. Had the software updated and claims it's gone. I have not driven in his car yet so can't comment.

One thing i would say though. BMW Auto's are sealed for life and we know how it ends, BMW M manuals have fluid changes, on inspection II. DCT does not have fluid changes, i would have it changed immediately irresective of motorplan or not. I don't trust sealed for life.

I test drove a manual this afternoon and I really like it .... it is 4 door but its very clean and still under plan
The manual is awesome and I am swaying more towards it after driving it.

I wanted a DCT but i am concerned about having problems with the gearbox in the future that is why I am depending on my fellow fanatics to help me with my decision :)

If it's under MP the issues can be fixed, don't buy out of MP IMHO, get all the minor issues whilst under MP, then maintaining when out of MP will be a breeze. DCT FTW, better than manual, this is my 2nd E9X M3 with DCT, my E46 was a manual and although different was not nice in traffic, just my 2 cents.

Yugz if you want a dct, get a dct, when Mplan has lapsed, take out a proper warranty and you're sorted!

I don't think the aftermarket warranty will cover the cost of repairing that gearbox

There are few guys with DCT M3's out of warranty, remember these boxes are much stronger that the infamous SMG. DCT is more fun, up shift down shift, easier in traffic blah blah blah, I can go on. If the car was taken care of you should be safe, manuals suck in traffic. But are if I am right marginally quicker on top in 6th than DCT.
