ok but with regards to performance does the single turbo performs better?

because from what my experience the twin turbo has go some lag...current me if im wrong gents.....:rollsmile:

I see the guys at Vishnu are doing single turbo conversions on N54's. ( I could be wrong, spotted it quickly, half asleep)
Wonder why?

N55 will eventually catch up modding wise...but the new M3 will be out by then and it may have 3 turbos:rollsmile:

Well let me put some examples up and your'll can decide which is better.
Cars in question - e92 335i (n54) & 135i (n55)

Both cars are approx two years old and about 10k on the clock. Both cars are stock standard, both fitted with DCT

So far on the 335i the ffg has happened::flyfun:
- HPFP has been changed
- Injectors have been changed
- Software needed upgrade
- Service Required Sign came up about 3 times within 2 years.

On the 135i the ffg has happened.
- Break Light on the boot had to be changed.

And other than that the 135 car never gave one hicup.:praise:

From my experience, the n55 sounds much better, boost feels much more violent, and performance would be biased to say but the n55 feels much faster.

I have first hand knowledge about both motors, so i can honestly say that the n55 for me is much better. So dont keep on going by the fact that the 1M uses the n54 platform. Do remember that when the development of the 1M was happening, they only had the n54 to use. Not saying the n54 is bad, but do not base your opinion based on this fact.

Hope this clears up some confusion about the n54 vs n55. Either way both are great motors:inlove:

I beleive the N55 is also a better option in standard trim. One of the main reasons that the N55 sounds more throathy is that it uses a bigger mid pipe with no cats compared to the N5 four - my keyboard has just become selective in the keys user :biglol:

There has been tons of discussions on forums, let me try dig some links out.
