i am interpreting your question in 2 ways,
1. If they are bypassing boost when they supposed to be shut that can lead to massive amounts of boost loss resulting in power loss and the normal 30ff codes

2. if you talking about them venting to air when they "release" instead of back into the intake system causing loss of power then that is indeed a myth...

Yepp talking about blow off valves venting into atmosphere only once the throttle is closed and not dumping back into the system like the stock Diverter Valves.

there are actually more aftermarket DV's using that design than the recirc system, it definitely wont affect your car...
