Hi,
I'm looking for a place in or near Johannesburg that would do a good job reconditioning a 2009 320I E90 250,000km.
Also I would like to know if it would me okay to bore it 2 sizes bigger and if it would make any changes to the power produced. And prices for reconditioning.

Thanks David From Kriel Mpumalanga.

Hi What exactly is wrong with the motor that it needs to be reconditioned?

when you say 2 sizes bigger do you mean making it a 2.2l?

I think he is talking about going 40 thou oversize on the pistons which is 1mm oversize. That would depend on what the engineering shop finds when they open up the motor. The N46 has an aluminium block so it will need to be re-sleeved for the bigger pistons which costs alot.

Have you considered getting a low mileage N46 replacement motor from Japan Auto Trading instead of rebuilding your own?

Agreed, this is a better cheaper option, if you still want more power maybe look at an N52B30 engine instead?

No! 6cyl swap on a E90 320i will cost more than buying a e90 330i.

Buy a low mileage replacement motor and sell your old motor to recoup costs. Its by far the cheapest option and their motors come with guarantees. An engine rebuild must be done professionally, the parts alone can come to R19k on a rebuild. If done half-arse on the cheap by incompetent staff then you can kiss that R19000 goodbye and end up buying a replacement motor anyway.
