Strange! Were all those people on the same network?

No 3 x vodacom and 1 x mtn, not sure what caused this because I haven't really heard any other instances of this happening to people. All is working fine now though.

if DO NOT DISTURB is turned on, this will be the result, make sure its turned off on all phones

Guys make sure you DO NOT install iOS 8.0.1, and delete the iOS 8.0.1 OTA update file to prevent yourself from installing it by accident - http://iphoneza.co.za/delete-ios-8-0-1-ota-update-pulled-apple/
