My Uncle's '69 2002

My uncle has a '69 2002. I was originally maroon, had it resprayed afer hail dammaged years ago. Engine is modded, hotter cam, 40-Delorto carbs, free flow exhaust.

This car is actually in very good shape as it is always stored in the garage. I would replace all rubbers, suspension rubbers and bushes and give it a good repaint and fit 15" mini-light rims.

I hope Classicman sees this post

What a nice looking 2002!

Dell'Orto carbs are very nice, I prefer them over Weber as they have a diaphragm accelerator pump instead of the piston type, that wears out and can't be be fixed easily. Bit harder to get the parts though but not impossible. Ebay is your friend.

Do you plan on buying the car? If so, PLEASE fit period correct wheels, your idea of mini-lites would be perfect.
Here are 15" Rotas

Here are 15" Panasports, they are more expensive than the top ones.

Or if you have a boatload of cash, try these Magnesium bad boys. 15" BBS E-50 (super expensive, but THE period racing wheel)

Some classic Ronals:

Or my favorite, Borrani 13" Steelies. How badly I want a pair of these.

I might look at buying it oneday, will fit EFI and individual throttleboddies and do total respray, new rubbers etc. My uncle just always wants too much for he wants to sell. No accident damage though.

I have always loved the shape of this vehicle however I did not research them that well so my knowledge regarding them is limited. A few days ago one came up for sale. I know this vehicle for a few years now and the owner never ever wanted to part ways with it everytime I asked him. It is a 1969, 2L completed restored and taken care of by the current owner since 1981. Tomorrow I am going to view it, he wants R50K. What do these babies sell for? It's is very neat but will have a look again tomorrow and decide on an offer..

If the condition is right, buy it on the spot.

A nice one will go for 60k plus.

Hamptons in jhb has a 2002 tii on the floor for 149k.

Sorry for he late reply.

It is hard to give an answer to a very vague question. But I will try my best.

R50K is a very good price if the car is in top condition, always remember that it is much cheaper to fix an engine or gearbox than to fix rust/missing trim/bad interior. So it is best to have a very good look and try to find every fault that needs fixing.

Rust can be in many places, but here are the most common ones in no apparant order.
Inside of wheel arches
Inside rear shock towers
Spare wheel well
rear lower corner of the doors
Front and rear jacking points on the sills(box section just below the door)
Front support just below the radiator, and also the valance.
Between the front fender and the body near the foot well.
Floorboards(usually from leaking windows)

A '69 will be worth more than a mod '71 or mod '73 in similar condition due to the cleaner look, and I suspect that a perfectly restored car(not just a respray) will cost more than R150K with tii's nearing R200K, but I have yet to see one in that condition for sale.

With that being said, a fair car with a bit of patina and no rust and a good interior would be R50K-R80K, but everything must be there.

The tii at Hamptons is a polished turd with one of the worst resprays I have ever seen, typical of a shop wanting to make a quick buck. Steer clear.

Hope this helps.

Regards
Jacques
