Thats the problem with the 7000D's - they bubble badly. I have gone through 8 of them for track days, but luckily never a bubble. They were as cheap as chips, R650 for a 235/40R17.

Got the guy down from 50K to 45K and judging by mielage and general condition etc... I think it was a bargain, seen one in Josi for 70K.

That's an excellent buy for the price :thumb:

It's hard finding clean ones with low mileage, even at R70K ...

This damage is obviously the result of an "obsticle" impact. Either a curb(poor driving) or a pothole(Municipal negligence).

How obviously? If it was due to an impact wouldn't there be signs of this impact on the tyre apart from the bubble and wouldn't there damage on the wheel as well?

Not neccessarily damage to the wheel rim. It all depends on the speed and the angle at which the impact occurred. The "bubble" you see is because some of the sidewall polyester cords were "broken" and also damage to the innerliner causing that area to expand more and the only way is outwards. If you are to deflate the tyre you will notice the "bubble" to sort of disappear. I used to be in the business and seen this a thousand times.

It is possible the bubble is from an impact, the difference being the dunlops bubble a lot easier and far more frequently than any other tyre.

If they don't bubble then the sidewalls crack!

A friend of mine had the SP Racers fitted on the front of his hatchback (those orange hatchbacks), and I mentioned to him that those tyres develop cracks on the inner side-walls - heard back from him a month or so later, "guess what? those :cursin: tyres have cracks on the inner...." And not from reckless driving either, some sort of defect I believe - have even read about it on other forums...
