:argh:  Okay Guys so I have been away from this forum for a while because my N42 engine's headgasket blew I decided to DIY it.
Not only did it blow but the block actually had a piece missing and the cylinder head had to go for re-surfacing Cost R780 done a bayview engineering ,Chatsworth ,umhlatuzana the did a great job on it , as for the piece of block missing I had to get it aluminium welded cost R600 and I had to deck it ,Clean off all old gasket , Okay so then I go to “Martin’s Car parts” Durban north great guy gave me all the gaskets etc I needed for this job at a great price R2700, all Victor Reinz so I finally get the head on down to last headbolt and “snap” it broke :argh:  , after crying for a while I pulled the head off again , attempted a screw extractor trick with no luck , had to get a thread specialist , John from John’s threads he did a great job broken bolt out , thread repaired with helicoil , I put the head one built her up and she run beautifully now better than ever. Guys remember my initial problem was a rattle when getting to 1000rpm this was caused by the misfire due to the headgasket broken between cylinder 1 & 2 and on the way to break a no4. Also discovered a broken bottem guide had to get a new one around R650 after 15% disc from BMW.

This actually is a major achievement, and you should be seriously proud of yourself.

This is one of the worst designed engines from BMW.

Granted this motor was a stepping stone to many of the new modern motors, and it can be considered an required evolution, and BMW has for sure learnt from their mistakes.

But fact remains, you took one of the most challenging BMW motors apart, and made it work.

Serious
