My First S55

I’ve been thinking about a M4 for years but never ever pulled the trigger. I was not familiar with the platform and after owning a S65 V8 wasn’t keen to move over to a inline 6.

I’m relocating to Cape Town and thought since there is so much change why not grab one of these to enjoy on the roads down here.

Test drove a 2015 M4 in February and I was quite impressed, got to push it on the highway.I wasn’t at all sold but certainly impressed.

Admittedly the test drive sat in the back of my head and decided I’m going to pull the trigger on the M4 and find one with a motorplan and possibly a competition.

Anyway found a LCI competition at a BMW dealership and decide to take it for a test drive. The LCI looks cool, the competition exhaust has some deep burbles that I liked and not the fire crackers I hear all over the place.

The handling and precision of the car as well as overall feel and experience just had me sold immediately. Admittedly it is a savage and loses traction at times when one wouldn’t wish for but damn it’s a experience.

After driving the f82 I wanted to drive a G82 M4 but decided against it, had I driven the G82 I assume it would’ve been in my garage, love the look of it, the tech and I hear it performs stupidly well in xdrive form.

I do however believe spending a extra 700k would’ve made me have buyers remorse tbh.

I’ve just done VPS on the front of the car as well, it’ll be headed to Cape Town in next week or so. Driven only around 400km in last month with it but will give more impressions once out some more kilos on it.

Will keep this for a few years and get a G82, however I’m in love

Welcome to the club bro!
I was in exactly the same position and I think I said the same thing re the G not being worth the additional cash over a F82 M4.
Car looks neat!

Nice one man, looks great in white!

Would be keen to hear your thoughts compared to the E92 M3 after you've driven it a bit. I often question if I would change over to the S55 but I don't think I could leave the V8 behind..

Thanks Bro, once I’ve put some miles on her will then provide some feedback.

Thanks brother! It is tempting to make the shift but couldn’t justify it. Thanks for all the support prior to purchase as well you answered so many of my questions

Thanks guys. Will be doing a Johannesburg to Cape Town drive sometime in the next week and will get to feel her out in quite a few scenarios. Haven’t put anymore kilos on her she’s been sitting in GP while I’ve been on Cape Town.

Road trip going to be top.

First drive I did with mine was from BMW PE where I bought the car to JHB, it was an awesome trip.

Share your views of the F82 after that vs the E92......I think it will be very similar to the views I shared.

So drove the car down to Cape Town. Bare in mind I’m well versed with the S63 twin turbo engine with xdrive guise, this car is quite surprising with a I6.

It is a midrange weapon and though I didn’t take it there it felt like it could keep pulling right through.

Over taking like with the S63 is a breeze no problems and once the tires are warm kickdown works well, note only when tires are warm, with my Xdrive once you put down, no wheel spin and it aims straight. This would do well with Xdrive.

The best way to describe the way it feels to me is a E36 M3 with two snails attached, it starts pulling stronger as we get going.

I have a comp so the sounds and burbles are nice but not anything like a bmw S65 V8. Actually unless I’m off the accelerator getting a deep burble I don’t care to hear it at all. I can get a MPE, but I’ve accepted this car for what it is in the sound department.

If I had to compare it to a E92 it will out perform a E92 for sure, not sure it would be as fun though.

Everything in my E92 felt tight, responsive and aggressive. I’d have more fun in a predictable S65, though I am still getting used to this S55 however.

If you want to get into next generation vehicles then yes I can see the appeal, the look, the tech, forced induction etc

Do I think about it when I get out of it, no I don’t. My E92 with an exhaust and software made me think about when I’m driving it next and a new song I’m going to listen to.

This is a damn good car don’t get me wrong. It’s quick, it’s comfortable, it handles well and it looks great. I love apple car play, lights in my seats and the extended light package and all of that.

If I had Eust supercharged E92 then no brainer wouldn’t think about the M4 unless I wanted some updated tech (apple car play)and something with more torque.

If I had a paid up E92 M3 and I’d have to finance this M4 to get into it, I wouldn’t do it. For me this was just something that intrigued me and always wanted to experience the S55 M4.

I don’t feel anyway towards the car if I had to sell it today I could and not really think too much about it, when I sold my E92 M3 it was a difficult decision for me doing it 5 years ago and I still think about that car now.

I’ll see what I do with it but I’ve got couple years of plan so will maybe see those out and test out a G82 in Xdrive guise.

You all probably aware of this as this is still a old car but thought I’d give some of my experience as a former S65 V8 owner.

As a older generation car surprisingly it still gets a lot of attention.

Spot on bro.
Exactly my thoughts too.

I'm also detached from my F82, I've put the MPE, MPerformance HAS Kit etc to tighten it up and help with the sound and hopefully get attached to it, but yeah, relatively no emotion in this car
I find myself driving the E92 more than the M4 - I am working on a deal for a Range Rover Sport to replace the M4 already.
Definitely get a lot of attention with the M4, that's for sure.
I remember when we got the V8M from you, the sound of that car was eargasmic.

I personally had not heard a V8M better than the one I owned. Not sure what in this league I’d replace this car with if I had to do it now, have big family cars already so this vehicle can be replaced with anything.

Maybe look at a Porsche or a Roush GT.

Update:

I’ve had the car a couple of months now and am really enjoying it.

It is definitely a performer and playing with all the settings I’ve started to find setups I enjoy in daily form and then for more aggressive driving.

This car is a torque monster. It isn’t the best sounding but it is fun as hell. I can only imagine what it can do tuned and with a HAS kit.

I’m enjoying using it as a comfortable cruiser when only myself and the wife with no kids. I have the full leather interior which I’ve begun to appreciate though it scuffs fairly quickly.

Fuel consumption is not at all bad coming from a S63. The drive is stiffer in the comp but not bad at all in comfort suspension settings.

My car in its Cape Town parking home.

Went for a service recently and while I was there got to see a M4 CSL.

Owner has no space for it so leaves it on the floor.
