Now, what I want to do next is get some more power out of it, but i don't want it to kill me paying for the upgrades... Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

If you want more power kill the cats (like Spy said), do the exhaust and maybe chip it, this will give you a little bit more power (with emphasis being on little).

I wouldn't do anything to that engine since it would just be a waste of money, if want real power your cheapest solution would be to swop out the engine with a 325 or 328 engine, but this is just my opinion.

Those lights are shocking! :nono:
Get oem xenons with tinted indicators and the car will look incredibly classy, atm the cheap'n'cheesy headlights are killing the black/gold theme. Then black out the kidney grills with a set of prefacelift sedan black grills from Scouse and you're done!

As far as performance, dont bother doing any mods to a 4cyl 8valve engine as it is a waste of money, take it from me as I have been through it all before. The best thing you can do is swap the engine out for a 328i or 330i motor, you don't hamper your gas mileage much either as the 318i and 330i don't vary much as far as average lt/100km goes. I average 9.0lt/100km and get 600-650km a tank, I got 700km last week....

I was expecting this ^^^ :mmm:

Nice car, but honestly those Autostyle lights don't suit your vehicle.

Maybe some smoked lamin-X on your old lenses, would go nicely with the wheel color IMO.

Hey, they looked way better on the site, I wish I could use the old lights, but the idiot that had the car before me fitted the original light and a pre facelift light. what will those engines cost? and where will I be able to find them?

and what mods will have to be done?

LOL a guy spends his hard earned cash on lights and rims and everyone just tunes him....

Perhaps you could open the lights up and spray the chromy bits black, that way they dont stand out as much and dont looks as ricey..

I dont think the wheels look that bad either.

As for performance, you do a chip, zorst and filter, search around on the forum, there a few thread for 318 mods. ( but dont expect miracles)

So this is what looks so strange on the right hand light. It seems that it is only the internal part that is from the f/l, that shouldn't be to hard to replace.
Otherwise I would go with 1two5guy's idea to spray the chrome bits black.

Japan auto trading has a lot of 328 engines if I remember correctly.

If you still have the original wheels, these ones:

I would recommend having them powder coated black, that would look awesome, I think.
If you revert back to OEM lights it might also look good if you black out the corner indicators, sidemarkers and tail lights.

This is of course my opinions, other my differ.

Not a fan of the lights, but good motivation for wanting to actually improve your car to your liking! :)

Keep us posted as to what, where and how much...

I also think if you sprayed the Chrome insides of the aftermarket lights black it would look better..

Wheels not too bad looking but the old ones are my favorite at the moment so I vote for them

Personally I would suggest: Step 1: Fog light diy and oem xenons as well as clear/smoked indicators:)
Wheels are fine for now.

Hi Guys, I have a 2000 BMW e46, at present i have 225/50/16 tyres on, are these the correct size. If any one knows please let me know the standard size and the best make tyres to go on.

Which e46 are we takling about, if its a 330i then 225 seems about right all the others had 195's or 205's as standard on 15'' and 16'' wheels if I'm not mistaken.

the STD 15 inch wheels take 205/60 tires
the STD 16inch wheels take 205/55 tires
the STD 17inch wheels take 225/45 tires

So 225/50/16 Is correct if you wanted the wider tires than 205's
