Motorplan Extension

Hi guys,

Just got quoted 14.5k to extend my motorplan for my 2008 335i for another year.

My kms are only 65000kms.

Is this reasonable?

I just want to remind you there is other options as well. Some members only took out a service plan, and some just went without it. Like mine is now out of moterplan for the last 40k km. And so far it just cost me 14k for 3 services and a cluth and flywheel replacement. Work out what it would have cost you. And then make a informed decition.

My wife's 2008 330i with 75000km was 10k a few weeks ago.

I just paid R12.8k for 10,000km's on my 135i. Made sure I got the quote before the price increase on the 1st September though

In March I paid R10 800 for my 2008 135i which then had about 66 000km on it and whose MP expired end April. I had the EXACT, to the cent, same quote from 3 different dealers.

Of course you will think "what if I don't?"

Just before my extension, I had to have a vacuum hose replaced. R2k parts and labour. If I hadn't gone on holiday, it might only have happened after the original MP expired.

After the extension (May this year) I've had a big service.
Front brake discs: R52430. (I was told my pads were also replaced, but don't see it on the service history)
Spark plugs: R1430
3rd Engine oil change: R1620
the diagnostics: R105

I have also had a slight wiring issue, but don't know what that cost the motorplan. No parts were replaced, but it sounded like quite a few hours of troubleshooting and fixing on their side. If I took George's advice on where to look and looked for instruction on how to reach it, I could probably have done it myself.

I think motorplan extensions are far more important now than ever in BMW's history as BMW's in general seem to fail/break down alot more these days. My guess is BMW put too much stuff into their cars that will fail and cost an arm and a leg to fix, gone are the days of simple reliable motoring...

From what I've heard/read, the x35's aren't really unreliable. They are expensive if something goes, and also for general maintenance, but I don't often hear about them giving serious trouble.

They have had their fair share of recalls though...

Yes, the infamous HPFP. Total cost seems to be R10k around 2010 according to my car's service history, and from what I've heard the issue has been resolved now.
I hope it's true.

I don't know of anything else, except for the battery cable.

Personally I would say go for it, 14K is a small price to pay for peace of mind, and should you chose to sell will make it far easier.

Motorplan is priced from BMW, not the dealers, hence the same pricing.
Apparently one mayu call in and you MAY be lucky to receive a discounted price, but yes, R15k for time only on a x35 is the going rate.

The R14k sounds reasonable, I would extend it in a heartbeat.

I last paid R7k to extend the MP on my Z4 for another year (time only). In that time, MP has replaced the clutch, dual mass flywheel and the gearbox on the car, so I guess I am ahead of the game.

Thanks for all the feedback. I have extended. I paid them yesterday.

You cant take a chance these.

A buddy has a 2010 335 and they replaced all brakes and pads, came it at 12k.

I noticed after extending, that only the date of expiration was changed and not the kms. It still says 100000kms?

Is that correct?

My girl teaches the CEO of MB, and he just extended the MP on her mom's C class for free:rollsmile:

But on a serious note, if you do extend the MP, don't try to fickle with the car and just keep it stock...

Also look at aftermarket maintenance and service plans. I have a service plan (3 years, total cost R15000) and a warranty (2 year, unlimited km) on the 6-er and both are rather good in terms of cover.

Yup.

My quote for 1 year and 15 000km came to something like R38k.
I also only took the time without the additional KM option.
