Motorplan expiring! Now What?

Hi fellow Beemers,

My 5 year motorplan with be coming to an end at the end of this year, with a possible 80000kms on the clock. I intend holding onto my E90 325i car for another 2-3 years.

I'm considering the following options:
1. Extending the motorplan for another 2-3 years, but I'm not sure how much this will costs? Was told that extending kms can be very pricey.
2. A buddy suggest I take out a warranty with the Innovations Group and service out of pocket.
3. Not doing anything and servicing and maintaining the car out of my pocket?
4. Wife suggest I sell the car, hold onto the change, and drive a cheaper car, for the next 2-3 years.

Any suggestions/feedback/ other options would be great.

Thanks

You can do a 10 000km Motorplan extension for R7500 thats what mine cost me.

I now took out a warranty with the innovations groups paying around R250 a month with a top up cover. You can then use any RMI approved dealer beside BMW.

But make full use of the motorplan now. Have a diagnostic done at BMW and have them replace anything the reads a fault. If you have the sport pack version have them check the suspension, Get them to change the water pump, this will go @ around 100 000km and will cost R6000 to repair at BMW.

Thats my advice:wave:

If you on 80 000km, if I'm not mistaken you would still be buying time, shouldn't cost more than 4k to extend for another year.

Schoo! Roughly R15k per year to extend the plan. Also, does the cover through Innovations Group cover servicing?

Regarding the diagnostic testing and the fault replacing, is that a common/acceptable request?

cars do not explode when they hit 100,000 or the motorplan goes.

Do research on what the common wear items are on your car, and have BMW do it.

Keep the damm thing, your just going to be pissing away serious cash if you offload her now.... Far more then what your going to pay for services, cause they are offically going to offer you R2.50 for the car, using the "economy" as the excuse..

Go get a cover for your car, take a clean set of underwear with...

My advice, keep it, find a good BMW mech, and save your money.... Drop that 15 into a seperate bank account/matress, and just keep it there, add R500 to it ever month, and should you have something go wrong...

Is it auto or manual ?

if you extend motorplan by a extra year & not extra mileage it should not be more than R4k for a year..

We did tis on our 318i. cost under R3k.. did it for 2 years so R6k.. Had +R30k work done to the car in the 2 years.. so totally paid off

If the car was well looked after and you want to keep it, you should. my 2003 330i went off motorplan beginning of this year ( no option to extend ) so just before it ended BMW replaced everything on the car (free of charge because it was still under motor plan) and the car is still runny excellent not even one problem on the car, but you gotta tell BMW exactly what you want replaced and why. The car should last you some time without giving any problems if it was well looked after  i think you should extend the motor plan while you can shouldn't be that much.

thats just my advice of what i went through

Extend for another 2 years with BMW and have peace of mind. You still under 100000kms so no need to extend mileage just yet.

Its doesn't cover servicing but trust me its not expensive. The next service will be your SparK Plug change at 90 000km, which will be covered by motorplan and then micro filter service which is so easy to do yourself.

I just did an air filter replacement, cost: R 300 for air filter from BMW and i fitted it myself, took all of 15min.

This weekend i did an oil service R537 for oil and oil filter from JSN BMW, i paid R250 for labour at a RMI approved repairer.

Break pads were done last month and that came to R1500 with parts and labor.

Its good to have some sort of cover, not all of us have the tools and know how to work on our cars.

Things that could go wrong, like i said would be your water pump at 100 000km, i know because it happened to me at 97 000 km. I was told by an ex BMW tech that this would happen on an E90 a month before it went.
Your cats would last at around 150 000 km to 170 000km depending on driving conditions.

PM me your email address and i will send you the policy showing what is covered under my policy.

Sweet

I would get a quote and see what they say. Technically you are still buying "time", but this means 10k km a year. So the motorplan is then still up to 100k km or another 2 years - whichever comes first of course...

One things for sure, having a motorplan and servicing at a BMW dealer is damn convenient! I never needed to worry about repair costs, comebacks or organising a lift to work.

The last time I used a mechanic was when I drove a Golf (MK3), and that guy ripped me off. Had to take the car back everytime, car wasn't ready for collection, wrong parts replaced, etc:cursin:

I agree with M Individual - stay with BMW - they will cover you up to and including year 7. Stay away from aftermarket plans as these guys force you to service at their specified dealers and only pay a small portion. After 7 years get a Hains m
anual and do your own oil & brakes.

Hi
My motor plan on my e90 323i is alomst ending.. I dont want to extend plan. You said that you go to BMW and tell them whats wrong and they can fix it. I am not a mechanic. I would like to make a list of things that they should check/fix but i dont know how to go about it. My e90 323 has 113K on clock motor plan ends in 115K .Also is there a place i can take my vehicle to before it ends to do a complete check and then give that list to BMW.. Please assist..

Cant find the button on my car that makes it all go BOOOOM.
E46 2005. 182 000km on the clock. Beside the regular service in the last 20 months only cost was bushes. (R1700)

Also these after market plans are a scam. 2 weeks ago one rep at the office drives a 1.9tdi Golf 2 door. He has a plan and use to brag about if something goes wrong. Guess what His turbo went. The after market covers but he has to put in R12000.00. As most of them covers up to 75% and then you HAVE TO HAVE IT SERVICED AT A DEALER. He has now ended up cancelling the after market at a loss of R200+ odd a month for 20 months and had his car fixed privately that cost him R12000 anyway.

All these stories of cars going boom and this and that going wrong is So funny.

Drove my Hyundai Gets to 374 000 km and only did one clutch and 1 gearbox. thats in 5 years.

It is this perception that makes people believe driving a BMW is an expensive thing.

Brakes on my gets cost R1200 just for the front now it cost me R500 fitted parts and labour on the BMW

Motorplan extension Ba humbug.

Ps Watch gopher go Booom Now. :)

Keep the car there are plenty of guys here that have good mechanics and you will never be sorry.

My Wife's E46 has been out of motorplan for two years now and the car had two owners before I bought it with 150k km on the clock.

Just a rough idea of what I have spent on her so far:

1.) Lower control arm bushes, +/- R1650 to replace and alignment done
2.) Front window mechanisms, +/- R1000 to have them repaired
3.) DIY replaced belt pretensioner pulleys, +/- R450 for all three
4.) DIY Castrol SLX oil, oil filter and air filter change, +/- R750
5.) Diagnostics, new ignition coil pack and labour, +/- R1000
6.) Pressure and leak test, refill aircon gas, +/- R650

Total: around R5500

Other expenses which are more choice based rather than required:

1.) Upgraded wheels and tyres - refurbished used E90 wheels and new tyres, +/- R10000
2.) Replaced all H7 halogens with Osram Nightbreakers, +/- R300

Still to do, so can't indicate prices:

1.) Full cooling system overhaul - expansion tank, pipes, pump etc
2.) Power steering pump, reservoir and pipes replacement
3.) Suspected minor tappet cover oil leak, steam-clean to spot oil leak etc
4.) Brakes will be due for attention soon - easy DIY

So at the end of the day, cost of buying the car with all of the already performed repairs and changes above, R101800. Not bad I reckon! And, seeing the smile on my Wife's face after driving the car - priceless!
