Motorplan and wheels

Hi guys.
I need a few questions cleared up.
I got my new car on tuesday, its a 2009 E90 320d LCI with 25000km on the clock :D

Now my problem is, its got horrible 16" wheels on, and Im looking at getting a set of 18" wheels. BMW said that it should be ok for me to put other wheels as long as they are 16,17,18' as I dont think the these models came out with 19". They were a bit skeptical about it and said if i do i should put the original wheels back on when i go for a service etc.
Now If i put 18" on with 225x40x18 and 245x35x18/255x35x18 will it pick it up when they put it on diagnostics, I was just wondering as i heard there are sensors for the wheels, as it has run flats. What is the widest i can go at rear on the E90. Will the motorplan be affected if i put other wheels on?

Also if anyone knows where I can get decent narrow and wide 18" wheels in Cape Town, as i have literally been everywhere and hardly any places have anything decent and at a good price.

Any other info and things i need to know would be much appreciated

If you fit something that this model came out with it shouldn't be a problem if you stick to runflats.

Some would say differntly:fencelook:

Look for a set of 2nd hand ones on the forum:idea:

Here is a few pics, Still stock stock standard, much to be done

I have looked literally everyday, monitoring every classifieds out there, but there is nothing that tickles my fancy. I am very fussy when it comes to wheels. And now is my chance to get my dream wheel. So i dont want to settle for something i will regret and buy it out of impulse.

Congrats...
18 inch wheels shouldn't be a problem as long as you have run flat tyres...if you choose normal tyres, you need to get a letter from your insurance company stating that they have approved normal tyres in the event of a future claim and that should be fine. No need to take your wheels off when going in to the dealer...You can go up to 8.5j front and 9.5j rear without any problems...
My car has after market 19's with normal tyres and BMW still does my alignment/balancing on MP whenever I need...

You are correct in saying there are sensors for the wheels, but they only measure whether the wheels are going round and round. They aren't interested in what you fit on them :roflol:

Seriously, what bmw said is best, just fit the original wheels when the car goes in then you'll be safe.

Lol, someone told me that it will show you if you have a puncture or the one wheel is deflated.

Ok cool, so much mission though to change wheels everytime it goes in.
Do you think they will mind if they are original BMW wheels fitted instead of Aftermarket wheels.

The runflat system only measures wheel speed between left and right. So if you have different sized tyres or pressure difference between left and right it will pop up.

Questions about dealerships are luck of the draw. I modified my Z4 a fair bit and had non star rated tyres fitted on OEM wheels and never had any issues.

Autoquip at Tyger valley specialize in runflat tyres. Had a puncture repaired on my RFT there and they are very professional. Goodhope tyres also have great specials.

Yeah i normally go to Autoquip in Tyger Valley, cause i live right around the corner. Great service and special favours :D

Another thing I would like to ask about the motorplan is:
Would i be allowed to put my Subs in the car, I wont put my other sound in as the sound system in the car is really surprisingly good. But just for that extra bass. Would they have a problem with that?
Also can I change the tail piece on the back box?

I was under the impression that you cannot repair runflats because you don’t know how long they have been driven flat, and so the sidewall may be irreversibly damaged.

Honestly, instead of opening a new thread for Motorplan and wheels, Motorplan and Subs, Motorplan and tuning...Phone Motorplan as they have the last say.
