Motorplan..An idea plucked out of thin air

Guys

After numerous discussions on this forum I understand the motorplan concept (I think)
Correct me if im wrong - When a new car is bought, then motorplans included for mileage/years (BMW or not)
When a used car is bought, then you would need to buy the motorplan or the dealer may offer it within the deal.

Motorplan (service plan that covers mechanics) does it cover wind noise from windscreen in a 2012 model
Does it cover a heat plate rattle after 12 months of purchase?

I guess the point Im trying to make is that no matter what the price difference in cars are betwen the uk and SA,your BMW bought from a BMW dealership must come with a warranty.
Most new items come with a warranty - microwaves dishwashers ,hell even the house which I bought came with a 3 year warranty.
More recently BMW even held an offer for non M models, this was the service plan offer. So you got the 3 year manufactures warranty and 3 years service plan pack.

So,why doesnt newly bought BMWs from BMW dealerships not come with a 3 year warranty for new cars and an Approved used BMW with a 1 year warranty?
Shouldnt this be something that you guys need to stand up for?
Write to BMWSA an compare it to the rest of the world.

So, is that what it's going to be like that. 32 have read the post but no one has commented, I can only guess, at the cost of sounding harsh I suppose ,everyone in South Africa has accepted this method of warranty And that's that.
I suppose it's a case of, so what can I do about it.

Let me tell you guys, this is not normal For the rest of the BMW buying world

Motor plan covers wear and tear items, like brakes, clutches, wiper blades, shocks, all services and brake fluids flushes etc etc. ALL for free within 5 years or 100 000km. Peace of mind basically. The owner just covers tyres.....

Warranty covers defects.

Edit: all BMW bought here in SA come with the 5yr/100 000km motor plan. It included in the purchase price, and not extra cost.

Also, new BMW's have warranties.... I think it's 2 years (unsure) and approved used cars as well (unsure the period).
Here, everyone focuses on the motorplan, though the warranty is there, in the background.... Lol

All new BMW come with a warrany. MP is a service that covers the maintenance of the car. Any replacent of defective parts is actually covered under warranty and not MP.

Who would suggest I take out an extended warranty or motor plan for my 2002 E39 530d?

And at what cost?

Hey? How can you car still be on motorplan? I thought you can only extend motor plan by a maximum of 2 years 5+2 so 7 years total.

My Renault Sport R26 came with a 5yr/150 000km warranty, and 5 year 60k maintenance plan, extended to 120k.

As stated maintenance covers - maintenace items, clutch brakes, services - maintenance.

Warranty covers mechanical -failure-.

I think what ChefDJ was referring to is one of those after-market warranty options. I believe the most advertised one in SA being the Hollard Motor Extender. ChefDJ, you will only know the cost after you get them to call you and give you a quote for your specific needs, depending on what type of cover you are looking at and if you qualify. The cover provided is worth considering, as it helps to cover costs of items that need to be replaced due to wear and tear, but note the terms and conditions carefully. The Hollard Motor Extender has limits to how much you can claim per item (e.g. only so much for your engine). On the plus side, you don't have to have your vehicle inspected and only need to wait 1 month before you can claim.

And no, I do not work for Hollard or have any of their products. I was interested one evening and got one of their agents to call me for a quote which I then didn't take as I don't need it.

Cheers.

Thanks vylint. Exactly what I was referring to. I'm not bothered by the turbo popping, but bigger things like the engine and gearbox. Also, will it be covered if I take it for repairs to a non-dealer?

The reason I'm asking is that my car gets looked after by a family member who is an excellent diesel mechanic. Will an after-market warranty cover repair costs if I take it to him for something major?

If I remember correctly, Hollard don't seem to prescribe who you go to for repairs. But they may give you grief if you can't prove legitimacy of the person doing the repairs. Best to contact them for more clarity.

Cheers.

lol I had a bit of a kuk situation where I had wind noise coming from the windscreen, after much hassles with the stealership and BMW technical I was told it is a warranty issue that on a new F30, needless to say only covered by warantee happy though cos they refitted the windscreen after damaging inside panels and noise gone. Happy too that bot panels were replaced.

I think you need to consider their terms and conditions, allot or most of the extended warranties requires you to service and have all mechanical work done at a RMI accredited repair center, e.g Bosch

I don't trust other dealers. Bosch used to do work for me and besides being ridiculously over priced, their workmanship wasn't all too skillful.
