Motor plan - To renew or not

Hi Guys.... My BMW's motor plan is up for renewal now. It'll be the 2nd and last time I do it. The car is a 2007 model, and has 70 000km. The motorplan ends in April. By this time next year (2014), the mileage on the car should be 80 - 82000kms.

I drive like a granny. I seldom, if ever red line my car (I get 50 - 70 000km on my tyres)... BMW quoted me R7000 for a one year extension. Do you guys think I should extend or let it lapse?

The car is a manual btw, so I'm thinking of things like the clutch etc...

Do it! There's a whole other thread on this same topic which you could look on, but if it's gonna cost R7k,do it.

No-brainer for R7k.

A clutch replacement would set you back R15k, a set of brake discs & pads would be R 7k already.

I say do it :)

Then after you pay the 7k, spend another R500 on an AA/dekra inspection and send it back to BMW to fix everything on the list :)

extend it..I took my car in in the last year of MP alot to sort out niggles and landed up claiming around 110 k from the MP for repairs done, service and brakes..so it was worth it

come trade the car in for something newer, ill look after you :) pm if interested

Well that statement blatantly optimizes what many hate about dealers and manufacturers - adding no value to existing vehicle owners and just pushing for new sales.

Back to the topic.. Do the extension today! 7 Grand is nothing compared to what the cost will be if/when something breaks. :=):

Okay, seems like I am the only one with a differing opinion...

Ordinarily I would have said: do it! Especially if its only any extension on time...

However, in your case I would say perhaps not. You will only put 10 000kms on the car for the year - and the car is way below 100 000kms. I would definitely get it checked by the AA/Dekra (as suggested above) and then get BMW to sort out the issues.

I serviced my Merc this week, including new brakes, total came to R11,200.
Made me wonder how hard I would have cried if it wasn't under full motorplan. R7k doesn't seem like a lot.
