Western Cape Transport MEC Robin Carlisle on Monday said that authorities were planning on rolling out more speed camera projects throughout the province.
The R61 Aberdeen Road that links Beaufort West to the Eastern Cape is home to the world's longest speed-over-distance camera network.
A pair of cameras track the speed of motorists between two points placed 71km apart.
Authorities said that the project had thus far been very successful.
The transport department said that there was a drastic drop in the number of drivers who exceeded the speed limit on the R61.
Carlisle said the province now wanted to establish a further four separate camera networks near the areas of Three Sisters, Leeu Gamka, Laingsburg and Worcester.
"I want these in by September, the latest."
He said the entire project would cost around R10-million.
Meanwhile, the City of Cape Town said its camera network on the M5 had kept speeding to a minimum.
