More 2002 E65 problems

Well since I was busy posting on my other thread about my smoking problems I might as well post the rest on a new thread:

1. Boot motor does not open the boot, I can hear it running but I have to lift the bot up myself
2. Whenever I select a gear car says please rselect gear, however there is no problem with any gear selection, BMW advised that the stalk is faulty?
3. My battery seems to be draining, I had a new battery installed by BMW they said my old one was faulty, I leave the battery switch on OFF now so it doesnt drain overnight

If anyone has solutions to these problems let me know

Some answers to your problems:
1. For boot motor, remove all covers in the boot. Top right had side of the boot is the boot motor actuator. Your boot does not lift up because there is no pressure being sent from the actuator. You can top this actuator up with fuid from BMW. PM me your email add and i will send you DIY.
2. Gear selector could be the stalk or the gearbox. Lift car up and remove the gearbox cover. if you find oil or heavy sweating around the plug that fits into the gearbox (looks like a tow hitch plug), then you problem is probably just dirty connectors and you need to change the seals and transmission pan kit. PM me and i will send you DIY.
3. Battery is probably draining because some module is not shutting down. Have you had car diagnosed using either GT3 or Launch system. PM me and i will give you details for pro at this.

Gosh bud, so glad I opted for the 6-er instead of the 7.

The boot actuator is a common problem and the DIY is easy enough to follow. Good luck with the gear stalk though :-(

Regarding the battery drain, I had the same problem with the 6-er. She would drain over night and BMW could not explain it either. Also had a new battery installed (BMW original) but the problem persisted. Finally had the tracker removed (since I don't use it anyway) and presto! Problem gone. The guy at the tracker fitment place told me that the older trackers had a backup battery which needed to be replaced every 2 years, and when that battery dies the tracker basically pulses from the car battery every so many minutes. If you get phantom errors (errors which go away after driving a while) then those are more than likely also as a result of the battery drain.

I have also read online that cars which have comfort access (IE keyless entry where you just touch the door handle) can have battery drain problems because of faulty electronics in the handles themselves.

Last but unlikely it could also be a faulty IBS (intelligent battery sensor).

I had the same battery draining issue and the 1st culprit was the alternator that didn't do the job. Had that replaced and sorted a few electrical problems out but if I didn't drive the car for a few days.... same issue.

Mine engaged into gear but suddenly would go into 'safe mode' and could travel faster than 50km/h and stated to get to a dealership ASAP. Well the alternator solved that problem! The 2002 and 2003 7 series are known for the electrical problems.

One day while unloading the boot I heard this humming noise and realized it was the satnav still spinning the CD :yuck:

I took the CD out, as I don't use the crappy satnav in my 2003 model the problem of battery draining dissipated.
