Hi

I'm Julian

I am new to the forum and new to modifications to BMW's. I bought a F30 320i 2014 nad would like to add more power via a software upgrade. after doing some research i have herd that the N20 motor does not handle to well with these types of modifications. like the engine block cracks etc. I am seeking advice accordingly, if it is worth doing it, or what type of mods can be done if i am looking for a littler more power?

Welcome to the forum, I hope you enjoy your stay here. Congrats on your purchase, the F30 320i's are lovely, I owned one not too long ago before trading it in for my M240i.

Well, I did have Jb4 and a downpipe on mine and it was also an N20 motor. It wasn't too bad I guess, I didn't really notice any problems with it to be honest. With the Jb4 I went up from 135kw stock to about 190kw or less, it was about the same as a stock F30 330i. It made a huge difference with the jb4, I use to race it quite. I enjoyed the way it drove, but I definitely felt that the jb caused the consumption on that car to go up by a huge amount yet this was a 2.0 engine, I use to actually get figures around 14 or so which is actually a bit more than my M240i and that's a 3.0 Inline 6. Not going to lie though, I did drive that car on sport plus majority of the time, it barely saw Eco Pro yet the M240i sees it most of the week besides Fridays and weekends lol.

So I definitely recommend you do JB4 on it and if you want it to sound better, do a downpipe. Assuming that you out of plan because the car is a 2014 model, but if you still have plan, remove the JB4 and the downpipe before you sent it in to bmw please. All the best with the car bro.

Hi bud,

Welcome to the forum...first thing you would want to do is actually diagnostics and a full health check then you can get an idea of how you need to proceed in terms of maintenance, if you dont do this and stretch this engine to much higher power...you will easily damage something and could end up being a big repair bill.

Once done, if you into plug n play then do JB but honestly, I believe a custom remap is always better, as it is written for your car specifically and exactly to the way you prefer the car to drive. A downpipe will support it as well as a flat-panel filter or intake, the flatpanel works well for my personally to be honest.
