Ladies and gents, its that time of the year again and this is something to beat last year's huge event:

Date: Saturday 03 May, 2014.
Time: 06:30, departure 07:00 sharp.
Meeting point: Bruma Nissan Parking, Eastgate

Route and destination:
We will be taking the N3 Durban, breakfast stop st the Engen Bergview 1 Stop in Harrismith.

Thereafter we will be turning off towards Phutaditjaba, through the Golden Gate National Park and onto Clarens for lunch.
The route is all good and pothole free tarmac, through incredibly scenic landscape, to the pictoresque town of Clarens with its renown eating establishments and brewery:

Route is easily doable in 3.5 hours.

There are 3 options.

Option 1.
Book in at the Golden Gate Hotel for saturday night, depart next morning and drive back to JHB after breakfast.
The eastablishment is very clean and decent and very reasonable from R350pp per night.
Please organize your own booking here:
http://www.sanparks.co.za/parks/golden_gate/tourism/availability.php?resort=184&camp_id=104

PS road to the hotel is fully paved and covered parking is available.

To book please use following link:

Copy and paste link into browser, else it takes you to today's date.

Option 2.
Drive back to JHB. Although spending the night is the safest and most pleasurable option in this beautiful part of our country.

Option 3.
Use/book accommodation of your choice.

No, there are several routes to Clarens.

the one we using for the breakfast run I used this Friday and Sunday again and did not see a single pothole. This is the route that drives from Phutaditjaba through Golden Gate.

It's 90kms of perfect smooth tar from Harrismith to Clarens.

the road between Frankfort and Reitze is full of pot holes, infact a dirt road would be a lot better.wittnesed a grown man cry at the hotel that drove this route with a z4

was considering going harrismith then n3 back to Pretoria but it would've added an extra hour to our journey, and since I was there with the bakkie decided to go the way I came
