Hey guys, just got back my car from a mechanic who did a service for me, car was still very loud, when i got home i checked a crack on the manifold, its not very large, would welding be advisable for the meanwhile?

What car and model is it?

EDIT: Never mind, I see it's a e30,320i. You should be able to get a manifold at a scrap yard, have it fixed up, and then just swop out with the old one. I don't know about welding it.

I have no idea what M20 manifolds go for or how much work it is to swop. I only have a M40 318i, but I have swopped my manifold before and was able to do it on my own first time. It's only really easier if you have someone to hold things in place when you refit everything.

If have trouble finding one, post a wanted ad in the Parts For Sale section. Note you'll 10 posts or more to be able to post in the For Sale Section. :thumb:

You have 12 studs in the head and the 12 nuts have to be loosened . Most are easily accessible , the ones at the back on the bottom row take some patience . I normally use a 1/4 inch socket set after spraying the nuts with Q20 or so .The front pipe to manifold flange normally has 4 nuts , also spray Q20 , here you use the 1/2 socket set . I saw a manifold on Gumtree for R350 a few days ago . The 320 , 323 and 325 shoul be interchangeable .
The nuts may be tight and with rust they may break off , so be prepared for the worst .
The manifold is cast iron , it can be welded , but is not worth it unless someone can do it cheaply . ( You use special welding rods for cast iron ) . Good luck
