Hi Guys

please talk to me about building a 3L m50. If i understand correctly, The M54b30 rotating assembly is a direct swap into the m50 block...no engineering?

Asking because I can get the M54 crank rods and pistons for R6k. Just need to be sure about this before throwing cash at this.

Any advice appreciated

I know that the M54 crank is a direct swap on the M52 so you just need to find out if the M50 and M52 share cranks... My guess is yes

I almost did this lol. eventually sold the crank and rods a few months back. you will need the 330i crank and rods which are a direct bolt in, new bearings and i would suggest 84,5mm pistons stock is 84mm, the guys in the states are running upto 86mm pistons on the M50 block and high compression which is an option:thumbs: Also please change your oil pump and make sure that you replace the crank damper pulley with a nice fresh one or if budget allows an Ati super damper as the 330i crank has a harmonics issue past 6500 rpm :thumbs::thumbs:

Order your oil pump and bearings from VAC in the USA. Burgy can organize shipping and import and have it here pretty quick. My last order from VAC arrived in 3 days.

just finalizing. just trying to find out why the motor is being stripped and will have to check health and so forth.

My car is waiting for a replacement gearbox so might as well attempt this.

Will see how it goes.
