M5 Exhaust & Warranty

Hi All

Id like to get some advice.

I purchased an M5, as per a previous post. The vehicle I missed out on had a full Acrapovic system, and the vehicle still maintained its warranty & motor plan with BMW, excl the exhaust system.

I mention this as it seems possible to make some alterations and still keep the plan as I had don't on my TSI Amarok that I had a few years ago.

My question is, has anyone here achieved this and know the channels to follow? I don't want to alter the exhaust, I just want to replace the downpipe section with a professional plug and play downpipe to get rid of the cats. Of course I will need to add minicats in so the ECU doesn't spin out, as id like to safe the life of the turbos and the engine, and avoid the fuel consumption increasing, and best of all get a better tone and turbo spooling sound.

Ive already purchased the K&N air filters which should arrive in Jan, which BMW wont be able to pick up due to differential air pressures from JHB to DBN on the stock ECU adaption for altitude. They didn't pick it up on my 4.0D X6 nor a previous F30 320D.

Anyhow, anybody have advice on this.

Thanks.

Many guys have fitted downpipes but you need to remove them every time the car goes into BMW or else you will have a motorplan issue (even the friendly dealers are subject to random inspections so whether you take that chance or not is up to you). The stock ECU for SA cars doesn't throw errors provided you do the 'mini-cats/cat foolers'.

The only approved full systems are AC Schnitzer (back section only) which is 60K+ and the M Performance one that is a rebadged Akra which is R100K+. Neither of those have downpipes. Cars fitted with Akrapovic branded systems prior to last year (when BMW SA, in their wisdom, decided to outlaw the exact system they themselves are selling) still have their full plan without issues. Guys on here have done back box deletes (turner) and not had issues clamping the OEM boxes back with an OEM clamp. Nobody will offer an approved decat because of emissions etc.

Speak to @Sherwin@xcede as well since he works with these alot and has mentioned there are minimal gains from DP only due to our cars having free-er flowing cats. Sound of course is a different story.
