M3 E90 vs CLA 45 4MATIC

So coming from Durb's yesterday this guy with CLA 45 just playing around with me to check what the M3 can do. Eventually gave him a try.....jirre on top end he just pulled away. These cars are fast. Which of the M cars will give him a go?

Modern Turbo 2.0 vs older NA 4.0 at altitude, this result may be expected. But, at the coast, you may have had him.

After speaking to a couple of my buddies I think I know the problem...

We both pulled off from about 120 and stopped about 200 which means that the M3 still had plenty to catch him and go pass...

To be perfectly honest, you should have passed him around the 160 mark, especially since you guys went on a roll.
Only two possibilities here, his car was modded, or your car isn't all that healthy...

At altitude the M3 is going to suffer - a turbo car making similar flywheel power will definitely give you a go.

You shouldn't feel too bad about the result unless you were in Durbs when this happened.

I would have thought an A/CLA45 would have handily taken the V8 M3s, particularly at altitude, those things can seriously shift.

They are about the same in terms of QM speeds and 1km speeds. In gear, at altitude, the 45 should pull away because of the additional torque but right at the top end the M3 should pass the 45.

Trust me. You are having more smiles in your M3 than he is in his CLA. I found the CLA to be a soulless drive.

Not sure what speed you started at, but those things modded do a crap 100-200, and mine used to run out of steam at 210-250.

They are quick if you use launch control otherwise they are pretty average. Rolling it was even worse.

Those A45's are pocket rockets, they are definitely not as lively as a 140i given that they are AWD, but they are light and nimble. Without all the wings and flairs they are sleepers too... I owned a A45 and a 1M and the 1M is by far the better car, but the A45 has its own charms.

M3 e90 will never pass a 45 Amg at any speed .. unless the race runs to 250 plus then it will.

Hate saying it as my cousin has a v8 m3 e92 but from a small test with the 140i the m3 is only good 1st and 2nd and that’s if I don’t use launch control and he launches... otherwise any rolling run turbo cars are too strong.. even the 35i motors with dp only or Jb4 only gets ahead of m3...

Like I said it’s sad as I love those m3 but just not that fast unfortunately ...

I've ran against a few CLA45.... I was always quicker with my manual E92 M3 with decat and mperformance exhaust. Especially on top...they had to move aside for me to pass. That CLA you ran against must have had work.
