considering getting a E90 M3 i seem to like the 4 door :flyfun:
small concern though the cars i've been looking at have about 1 year or just over a year on mplan left. i was a bit worried about the dct maintenance out of mplan i intend to keep the car for about 3 years...
from what i've been reading on international forums if the dct clutches start slipping the gearbox needs to be replaced?? anybody got any insight to this??

I've only heard good things about the DCT. There hasn't been much discussion about this with cars being out of plan, doesn't seem like there are too many out of plan just yet. As far as manual vs DCT is concerned, there are two camps on this forum about which is better, but either way, you'll not regret it. I've got a manual and love it. Guys who have DCT love it. So it's down to personal choice. The longest you'll get that car extended to though is probably end of 2015 (7 years from date of registration or manufacture, can't remember, think it's registration).

I work the life out of the DCT and it hasn't had a hiccup to date. Then again the car is over 4 years old and has 33k kms on it, but that's 33k kms of very hard driving as its not daily driven.

I suggest you try and find out (if it can be done) how many times the car has been launched. The launch control being brilliant, however it does eat away at the drive-train.

Also being a BMW, look into the history for any major claims against the gearbox. Many were recalled upto 2009, for the gear-change controller to be replaced as there was a fault on them from factory. They cost around R30k, and that's just for the part. An error used to appear on the i-drive/cluster warning the driver that the vehicle is in park but you would be driving it normally when it pops up, so nothing major just used to throw error messages for nothing.

Although I don't own a m3 dct, I do have two cars fitted with these boxes.
They are fantastic boxes but also am curious about how these boxes will hold up later on in life
