M3 CSL Temp Gauge

Guys,

One thing I noticed with my new CSL is that when I am cruising the Tempreture gauge is slightly off centre (it sits somewhere between the left dot and centre -- so towards the cold side)

As soon as I give the CSL some "tap" it snaps straight away to dead centre.

Is this the normal thermostat issue, or is it normal in an M3.

mine used to sit dead centre.

then my waterpump exploded, so i changed it, along with thermostat and the temp switch, and then it sat off centre, to the left/cold side.

All M cars I have owned do it. Remember its oil temperature. Not water temperature.

As long as its between the first dot on the left and the dot in the right you are golden

I am 99% sure he is talking about water temp, else he would have said oil temp

Oil temp in the same "ring" as where the tachometer is. The water temp is on the right side on it's own "ring". If it is the oil temp you are speaking of, mine does the same thing.

Well I have observed that the water temp needle is very sensitive unlike all other non ///M BMWs.

When you put the OBC on realtime water temp display you will notice that the water temp only changes like 1 deg with every mm of movement between the 2 dots on the gauge. BTW - I have noticed my CSL (with its new thermostat) hovers between 83 and 85 deg with 85 slap bam in the middle and 83 noticeably to the left.

I replaced the thermostat on my "regular" E46 M3. Water temp sits slightly to the left - it goes dead centre when driven a bit more aggressively.

This exactly the same as mine :) so I presume its normal.

and yes water temp, sorry I should have specified :nonono:

I always thought that it would also depend on whether you are at the reef or at the coast. boiling temperature differs, so...

I'm at the coast and mine sites in the centre
However with the current cold weather in Cape Town it's takes a while to get there.

When i had a faulty thermostat and cutch fan, it sat in the middle like normal non-M BMWs but after replacing it also sits slightly to the left.
