Because there are 2 types of buyers of M cars.
There are those who are true fans and appreciate the M brand for differentiating their cars from the flock. They enjoy driving. They appreciate that slightly better throttle response. They appreciate the marginally improved steering feel. They appreciate the exhaust note. They appreciate the changing engine tones as the car sings through the rev band.
Then there are those who buy these cars for status and bragging rights and to claim to have the fastest, quickest ///M$ on the block.
Sadly for the driving enthusiasts, the latter group won't buy a M car if BMW just made a brilliant driving machine only without the ability to brag about it. And sadly, the numbers for any performance brand (be it M, AMG, RS, etc) simply don't work if you sell to a small community of enthusiasts only.

Because they put an additional 22kws in M2 and the M135i first came out in 2012 with 450nm so it's about time they increased that 450nm almost 5 years down the lineYUBEN@TheFanatics said:So the M2 is 272kw/465nm vs M240i with 250kw/500nm
How can BMW produce the M240i with 35nm more than the M2 beats me:hammerhead:

Snap. I reckon this B58 is going to be a beast if the tuners can work their magic. Engine seems to run a lot cooler than the n54/n55's.

So i guess when a M2 is faster than an M4 around a track that must also be :bs: The M240i is gonna sit with a M2 in a straight line, its a tough pill to swallow. The look on the owners face said it all, you could see he was not happy.
Crash_Nemesis said:Actually, no it's not. This is the second video I've seen an m240i stick with an m2. See review below
M240i keeps up as well as starts gaining against M2. Interesting.
