///M on 95 vs 93 Petrol

Hey guys

Was having a discussion with a mate about M cars and running different octanes on them and the effects..

Now, to me because they are high compression engines, they should run smoother, give more power and be more fuel efficient when running a higher octane, as the car would be able to run more advanced timing. (basically higher octane would be better in every way)

On the other hand, my friend gets better fuel consumption when running 93 in his e46 M3. Obviously the car is also less responsive too when running 93 as opposed to 95.

Has anyone else had this experience? Would love to hear your thoughts!

Hmmmmmm, less responsive.... He's obviously not getting the maximum potential from his car.
Don't do 93 :rollsmile:
These cars were designed to run on 98. In my view running 93 is criminal. Your friend should buy a diesel...... Lol :fencelook:

I think it is mind over matter here... He probably drives slower and is easier on the gas when he fills up with 93... But as Yasheen said, M cars are designed with 98 octane in mind, so I wouldn't run my car on anything lower than 95 octane...

That being said, some men just want to watch the world burn :nonono:

Just don't put 93 in. He is either driving miss daisy with 93 or lying his ass off to prove his point.

I don t feel the difference between 95 , 97, 98, 99.... However, shell introduced v power nitro and I tried some inte 1.6 civic and definately felt it more responsive.
Not tried v power nitro petrol in the m yet but will post comments when I do .

The pumps close to Silverstone have 102- now that I want to try but only at ltd service stations
