Hi guys,

So I just took delivery of my Z4 M coupe.. Got myself a gem with only 28000kms on the clock when I got it.
My brother has the Z4 M Cabrio and was telling me about the gear knob that lights up.. But when I checked mine it doesn't.
Was this an optionl extra or do all Z4 M's have it?

They should all light up provided it is the standard one. A lot of owners have however replaced this for a ZHP weighted gearknob( the standard one has a habit of coming loose) which does feel a bit better. I have personally changed my standard one( which was coming loose) for a ZHP with lights( OEM version comes from a M5 manual)

Are you talking about the E39 M5 knob? If so are you sure it's ZHP? The ZHP shifters are a lot shorter than most standard ones.

This is the M5 shifter: http://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E39-M5-S62_5.0L/Interior/Shifter/ES47009/

This is the ZHP shifter: http://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E39-M5-S62_5.0L/Interior/Shifter/ES47397/

Its the F10 M5 knob. Im pretty sure its the same as the ZHP. There is a bit of info on it on other forums of how you can take out the leather boot to use the existing.

If you do still have the standard knob, just check the connector below the boot which may have come loose if the knob was pulled out by mistake

My gear knob is the standard one.. I should have it checked. Thanks guys!

Pull the knob off and check the cables, might just be a loose contact. Same story on my ex coup
