I am in the market for an X3. I am looking at the 2.0 petrol derivative. Is it a good buy? Can anyone comment on the experience of owning an X3?

New X3 is brilliant.

Old X3 is decent - I think the old X5 is better value, but that's just my opinion. In any case, if it's the old X3, I would suggest the diesel over the petrol, unless you're not too concerned about consumption.

What's your budget?

+1 on the diesel, 1.5 for the X5 being better value for money

THats an exceptionally heavy car for a 4 cyl. Either go diesel, or go for something slightly bigger in petrol. 3L diesel FTMFW of course...

Just do a bit of research on X3's and transfer cases though, they go poof...

Thanks guys! I am considering a 2011 model. My budget is around the 500k mark. I drove a 320 CDi Merc before I switched to BMW. The Merc was diesel and costly to maintain. I see you guys are recommending the diesel engines, are they not costly to maintain?

Differant story,

Since your going for a new one with a motorplan, they are epic, you have nothing to worry about..

The X1 2.0d was going for around your budget.

I would go for a 2010 or maybe ever low km 2009, just to get over the bulk of the depreciation hump....
