The best price thus far is R27k really add about 25k and buy a darn car why are these insipid engines so ridiculously expensive ?

You can pick up an M6 engine for R120k but a 318i which with all respect is not a hundredth of what an M6 is costs 25% of the price .

How is that justified ? From a price elasticity standpoint I get the theory that supply and demand all other things being equal determine equilibrium but still the feasibility of the cost of an essentially entry level engine being this onerous .

Oh well the search continues for my buddy who certainly cannot afford to pay this amount

N42 engines suck donkey bits, they break, so everybody wants them. Same issue with 4 cyl diesels..

THe 6 cylinders do not die as much (only from overheating and poor oil pumps)
