Local vs Import - E36 M3

Wsup all,

Flirting with the idea of getting an E36 M3 coupe (manual) at some point in the near future. But decent examples are now becoming scarce, and by the time I can get one the situation will be worse. Plus well kept examples will cost an arm and a leg...

I'm considering importing one from the UK if the finances add up (shipping, duties etc); prices there can be up to half what we are paying...wondering though what the drawbacks would be of a UK spec car in a climate like ours.

Would love your opinions guys!

A UK M3 won't like the 95RON fuel very much....Other than that you do need to find a decent one...plenty of cheap ones about here...but they're been ragged to death...A good one with service history is harder to find here and you looking at around £4000-£7000...also you will have to pay import duty which puts a lot of people off importing cars from the UK to SA...I loooked at doing it for a Mate of mine and it worked out after duties and shipping etc to be only slightly cheaper than getting one in SA

Take the cost in pounds and double it. Thats what you will almost be paying to import into SA. There are import duties etc etc etc. Can add up to 42% extra. Trust me, been there, done that.

It seems local's getting the vote...but it's scary to think what an M3 going for between R85 - R100k has been through:mmm:...I've seen vehicles imported from various countries; Singapore,Dubai,Japan,UK,Germany and they are almost always in better condition than the local equivalent of same age and mileage. So my thinking was that even if the cost of importing is almost the same as buying locally, I'd still be getting a better state of vehicle.

You will pay more, maybe slightly less than a Local if you import. It's really not worth the effort. You can find Mint E36 M3's for +- 120k. I would go that route.

Mint ( In the eyes of a blind person ), 1 owner ( nobody stoopid enough to buy it ) only used on Sundays ( at local drags ), 4th and 5th gears hardly used ( not used in 1/4 mile drags ), never been on track ( not on race track , only drag strip ! ):bs::bawling:

good luck , Murphys law - the one you want was sold 5 minutes ago :cursin:
