Leather color change

Hope all is going well :smilebounce:

I am doing some research and wanted to get some opinions from anyone on the forum who has been in this position and what worked best for them.

For argument sake say I have a Black Leather interior (90s era BMW) and I wanted to change that to a more exotic flavour in the BMW range lets say Caramel or Dark Brown, what would be the best approach?

Have the original leather dyed in the color I want?
Have the entire interior re-upholstered in the color with new Leather?

I can see risks with both approaches, with the dye the same color might not come out right on all panels? With re-upholstery I have seen the horrors of a bad job things just never look OEM, padding is off, etc.

Who has done such extensive changes, any experience?

Thanks all, appreciate any input or direction to other threads I might have missed which discussed this

Thanks if it is the Midnight blue 135i with the Chocolate interior then yes I have seen that car, looks the business..

I am not apposed to any approach just want to know what will work best, I guess if you want custom patterns, stitching, etc. then a re-upholster is the way to go as well to give it that OEM+ feel.

Theres a company called "Color Glo" that re-dyes seats, I haven't personally used them but did consider them when wanting to change the colour of my Z4 seats.
