Last maintenance plan service

Hi all,

Hoping you would be able to shed some light on the current situation.

My dads F25 X3 3.0d maintenance plan expires at the end of June 2019. I have him encouraged him to take it in to one of the BMW dealers in CPT to have a final service and look over before the plan expires so that he can have any items that are within the wear and tear limits replaced under the plan.

How do you guys verbally going about taking your cars to a dealer and getting them to check over and replace items that could be issues in the future?

Is it better to take it to an independent workshop and get a report (Garage808, brilliant mechanical etc) and take that to the dealer or what?

Any particularly items you would recommend he request BMW to look at etc?

Any feedback or input about how he should go about this would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Ideally you would have told your service advisor 6 months+ in advance that you are intending to keep the car. They will then look at the car in detail and let you know the car is likely to need x, y or z in the next few weeks or months and spread out any end of plan work. That said, they will definitely be happy to inspect the car and will likely find something for motorplan to pay for as part of it. Just let the service advisor know that you want a clean bill of health before plan ends.

I seriously doubt a report from an indie will hold any water with BMW or a dealer... however if there is a genuine concern you have it isn't a bad idea to get a second opinion.

The days are unfortunately gone where you drop the car off for the last service and get everything changed at once. You need to do this over time and if something isn't genuinely in need of changing it doesn't happen. If something is obviously ABOUT to fail, then yes they can motivate to change it but you can't, for instance, pre-emptively change bits of the cooling system just in case it fails 30000km from now.

That said it shouldn't stop them from claiming for multiple things that need attention all at once - it just needs a good SA, time and motivation. I have had genuine claims where eg: I am doing turbo lines plus brakes plus suspension all at once and BMW starts wanting loads of pictures (including having you drive off and come back 3 or 4 days later for more pictures), special reading into your ECU or inspections (even had someone out to drive the car)... because this is what guys have been doing as plan ends whether parts need changing or not LOL. Dealers are also heavily penalised when they are audited and your perfectly good part was replaced under plan by them. Strangely I have helped guys buying F10 M5s and seen many that have had excessive claims such as discs every 25000-30000km (mine were replaced at 60000 and 120000) but they still moaned before approving mine so I am not sure what the formula really is :eek:mgwaiting:

Anyway, good luck and I am sure it will work out.

As suggested above, alternatively, you can make vague statements, such as an unpleasant smell (which could result as an exhaust related MP claim) or harsh ride (suspension goodies), jerky transmission (gearbox service or a reset, etc).

Maybe do some research into your vehicle and check what common issues are out there as a basis for what you would like to be changed.

Depending on the dealership, even if they can not replicate the "vague" issues...for customer satisfaction, they are generally willing to claim against motorplan.
