Lambchop's Leguna Seca M3 Detail

Hi All

So this weekend I had the pleasure of detailing 4PipeR's lovely M3
Iv always had a soft spot for the E46 M3 so was great to finally detail one
Thanks to 4PipeR for the support

The car was in a bit of a state and covered from head to toe in a mass of swirls and RIDS. I spent over 15Hrs machine polishing this car. RIDS and hard paint don't make a great combo. I don't normally use Menzera FG400 but that was the only polish able to knock-back the mayhem.
I wasn't able to remove all the defects due to the paint thickness. The bonnet averaged 120 Micron while the rest of the panels ranged from 80-100 Micron.
If I can give any advice to the detailer's on the forum, It would be to spend the cash and get a Paint Thickness gauge. It will help you map out paint thicknesses and help you identify any previous work done on the car.

Here are some before pics to we the appetite.

The usual Foam wash

I think I got the concentration ration right this time cos the foam was sticky and removed some grime

Nice Work, did you have to follow up with a pure polish after the FG400?

I did - I used the Rupes Fine polish
But to be honest FG400 ( Cut 9 Gloss 7 ) breaks down so well you don't have too. Its nothing like the Menzerna S100. That used to leave nasty marks which needed alot of refining.

I got it as part of a kit
The gloss polish is very similar to Menz FA
The polishing compound isnt great though leaves marks if you dont work it down enough.
Get FG400 if you want the cut without the worry of refining it
