Fuzz, shot for the straight talk. Appreciate that. Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't that run an E30 club Organised event which some of the BMW Fanatics guys decided to support?

I'm not sure boet, the last E30 club organised meet I attended was around two years ago... But I think there was one which the fanatics supported, if my memory serves me correctly - will confirm that with my family. Either way, the reason why I am drawing a comparison to the e30 club is that it has gone slack on the kzn chapter in terms of meets since there is a lack of strong and firm leadership. I wouldn't want the same to happen to the fanatics!

That being said, I was invited to a run, randomly by Naruto, here in jhb. I wasn't a member of the forum, but he followed me to the garage, and recruited me for a ruyn. That's great commitment on his part! So in the same vein, I think the durbs guys can pull a few pages out of the books of the jhb guys. I mean, I've been on the forum for just under two months, and already I can plan a run with a decent turn out, not cos I'm good at events, but because the memebers here are committed. So maybe that's what you guys need, less keyboard jockeys and more real okes.

Spot on in terms of the commitment needed in Durbs. Hopefully we get there sooner rather than later.

Nash and his crew always support the Durban events and were at the last charity event. They couldn't make this weekends event due to family circumstances but its good to have their support even though they not active on the forum.

From what Nash has told me, he hears about events via the bb group, so look at channeling a lot more event traffic through there... I hope that you guys achieve some great results cos i want to attend some dbn events too

If you know anyone from the e30 club, ask about a port shepstone hook up

I'll pm you my dad's details, he can give you a few pointers on meets in kzn as well

I've been to one of the e30 club S.A. hook ups at Blue Lagoon. Even though I didn't have about e30, pitched up with my e36. Was a good turn out, about 10 cars.

Maybe it's worth coordinating with the e30 club guys also. Think Nasser is in charge of arranging kzn club meets.

Just a suggestion guys

may i ask a couple of questions?

how many jhb/cape and kzn fanatics are there?

reason why i ask is we would get more of a turn out here in jhb as there is more members(might be wrong)also from experince, the first ice cream run i organised, there were only 7 cars, but the following month tried again,35 cars, and it balanced out at at roughly 45 cars at a meet up,but one has to remember that this is at night,so family commitment isnt that much,as a day event.
also when i organise an event, i try and cater for everybody, example, halaal, etc noticed that the spur and wimpy meet ups are a bit small, but the lunch time nandos ,it ups seem to get a fair amount of cars, every body loves nandos:rollsmile:

what we also did up here was order fanatics cards from rooi willie(know some of the kzn guys ordered) and basically stuck it on every bmw we come across,or any body that is interested, also i have had guys ask me about the fanatics due to them seeing the stickers on the car as well

i did 8 successful ice cream runs before i handed it over to aadil, and want to try a couple of different things this year,if it fails, get up and try again:thumbs:

runs that i have know to work here:
ice cream runs(night)
harrties breakfast run was a success
a car show we did in the middle of the year
heard the karting runs were great
wimpy breakfast and spur evenings were also good
also heard the parys run was great
also the zwartkops day where the fanatics do different things from track to skid pan or braai and relax

i hope this helps and it picks up,when next down in kzn, want to meet up with some of you guys, even if it is just for a milkshake and a burger:thumbs:

I was invited via bbm on the chat, but it leterally killed my phone, so I had to remove myself from the chat. sorry.

Have you not heard of battery killers united? :roflol:but seriously there is a lotta kak being discussed on the group, I see the whatsapp group is a little cleaner...

Something about inviting guys to the website, I have left BMW fanatics cards on numerous cars, and some really lovely ones too..most of the time the chap calls and says he is a member already, when you get their forum name then you realize they are common posters but somehow forget directions to a meetup.. You chaps know who u are...

I think a meet up should be where everyone of us gets together, check eachothers cars out, ask questions, get advise.
Also the main thing seeing as that it is a car club, we
should all come and exchange contacts for good prices on anything to do with our cars???
That way its also beneficial for everyone.

anyway, might have sounded dumb, but in my head it will attract more guys.
Also we should have a help out day with eachother, where we all get together with minor issues on our vehicles and try get everyone sorted out? How cool would that be.:joy:

Hz Guys, what you're dealing with is 'Natal Fever'. It's just a laid-back attitude which most of us have down here. So the intentions are there but on the day....depends on the mood.
Don't think you're going to change that. Those that are 'nutters' will continue to attend 'religiously' and the rest of us will 'pitch' on occasion....well maybe. Later

Colin thanks for your input and I am sure we can learn and benefit from your experience in organizing events. I think the night events in particular will be more successful in KZN. DROP IT Organised the first night run some time back and it was relatively successful but included other car brands as well. I think another night event is in order ......DROP IT and Sidewayz I don't mean in Chamberlain so don't get too happy :fencelook:

Zulu I think it is much more the the laid back attitude, it's purely lack of commitment

thanks prevan, heard about the night run on the nissan owners club forum, they were impressed:thumbs:

also been thinking, gauteng, pretoria and jhb are about 60km apart, with midrand in the middle,so for guys gathering it is pretty easy.

in kzn, ladysmith is about 280km from durban, margate, roughly 100km and ballito about 70km,pietermaritzburg about 100km and all from durban,so you guys are spread over a bigger distance than us here in gp,maybe thats a problem??

Yoh the attacks on leadership :fencelook:

I need to defend that, there is no lack of leadership. Where I don't organise a run, someone else is given a chance. Our main runs were planned well in advance (2-3 months) and we are decisive in the POA for the day.

Fuzz you attended the one informal meet up for a shoot at the stadium am I right? I remember your red M. That was an informal photoshoot hook-up hence there was no exact plan for the day, we just wanted some good shots of the cars with Mr Arbee being down in Durbz at the time.
I think it's unfair to judge the leadership aspect of KZN because myself, Drop-It and the other guys who have had turns organising put a hell of a lot of work in some of these runs and we each spread the word to non-forumites via other social mediums. Like Zulu said, there just seems to be a very laid back non-committed crowd.

It is disheartening when I put effort taking time off work to organise charity runs, breakfast meets etc only to have 7 cars rock up on the morning but there were over 20 names on the list of people who committed to attending so how is the leadership at fault in that case?

Anyway thanks for your input Herr, much appreciated. We need to start doing more of the midnight runs judging from the response and in turn that should attract more regulars for the other runs.

There aren't enough active KZN members on the forum as stated earlier so it also hampers our attendance for the runs. Whenever we open it to other non-forumites and other car clubs, we seem to have a large successful run so I guess we maybe keep trying that angle and building up KZN from there.

Thanks Guys

My experiences with meeting with people that belong to BMW clubs down in durban:

My experience has been with the E30 Club SA and a few random bbm meet ups. Guys lack commitment and general leadership - hardly anyone is willing to make a solid decision and lead the guys. Possibly why there's such a relaxed attitude toward these meets. My dad and brothers attend bmw fanatics meets in durbs when they can, so do a few of my close friends (yunus, azhar, shezaad, sheshvir, nasheel). Of those 5 people mentioned above, only one is active on this forum, and he's too young to drive his own BMW. So this leads me to this, what are you guys doing to attract more members, committed members??

That being said, the last bmw meet I went for in durbs drew almost 40 cars. Nobody identified themselves as a fanatics forum member, and we had the stickers on the two M3s which makes you think, where were the Fanatics???? I mean I'm from jhb and I had to post pics of the event. I know this critisism is scathing, but if you guys want the current mindset to change, what changes have you made in your strategy to ensure sustainability?

Just my thoughts

Fuzz

How do u know that nobody identified themselves as fanatics. I was there and I know for sure that I told all the guys where I come from. That was the whole purpose of me being there. Its best that u keep quiet if u don't know what u talking about coz when we were all talking u were sitting in mcdonalds. Don't be quick to put people down here.

Guys just chill and take the comments that are useful / applicable and let the others go. Fuzz's comments were largely based on his experience with the E30 club and I'm sure he didnt mean to come across as disrespectful.

Yulz, you have been great at organising events and we depend on you to carry on with this. You have shown great leadership and organisational skills especially with the highly successful charuty events even if we had limited support. The people that participated truely appreciate what you did

Everyone's comments are welcome and we will hopefully learn from it but please try to be mindful of how you come across :fencelook:

Hz...While the midnight runs would be fun.....I feel that they will create a 'race session' with too many cars competing, guys driving like idiots...def not for me. This business of passing on the left, in the yellow line ect sucks. Later

I really dont think KZN has 'keyboard jockey' syndrome... in fact im sure they post way less in general than most other provinces...

I know of a few awesome cars and projects that are in DBN maybe we need to get the guys interested in seeing the cars to get numbers up?

@Prev. Thanks buddy :thumbs:
