I am sure most of you have been following developments on the JB4. We have also been waiting in great anticipation and it is finally here. The alpha testing version was available to us before Christmas but we decided to hold back untill the world pool of testing was completed and most of the bugs tweaked out. So our order has been shipped and should be at our local post office early next week. The other reason for the delay was due to other important BMS products which were still in production such as:
1. Wheel spacers for all type of BMW's
2. BMS Can Tool. Which we have been testing and using in Cape Town for several months with great success.
3. BMS speed delimiter
4. LED trunk light upgrade
5. LED license plate lights
6. BMS dual cone filters
7. Arc Angel white eyes
We will be showing these together with the JB4 on the BMWFanatics forum as soon as they arrive.
Now back to the JB4 and I qoute from the BMS website:
What's it called?
We were originally going to refer to the G4 as the JB3/G4 board. But with the PRO board also looming I think things are going to get too confusing. So for simplicity we're going to refer to the G4 as the JB4. It's such a huge departure from the JB3/G3 it really deserves it's own name anyway.
So what's new?
The JB4 is an upgrade to the JB3 that replaces it's control box with a new much more technically capable box. The new box features 5x the processing power, 2x the memory, better signal conditioning, a more robust power supply, integrated CAN communications, and additional inputs and outputs for future use. CAN specifically is the largest improvement allowing access to hundreds of new parameters, commands, and potential tuning features. In place so far on the alpha are in dash gauges, shift light, built in code reading/deleting, steering wheel controls, on the fly map switching with confirmation, a completely new CAN based boost control system, cold oil protection, built in DPFIX, etc. Additional features currently under development include autotuning to optimize power and safety on an ongoing basis, drag launch mode, adaptive PID to optimize boost targeting, progressive meth mapping, and many more to come.
How do I get an upgrade kit?
(From Rennzport of course)
How much is it going to cost me to upgrade from JB3 to the new JB4?
For JB3 owners who bought direct or from an authorized reseller on 9/15/10 or later the JB4 upgrade will be free. For JB3 owners who bought direct or from an authorized reseller prior to 9/15/10 the upgrade will be $85 + core. For all others the upgrade kit price is $150 + core. Detailed directions will be in the upgrade order link when posted. For new customers the JB4 PnP is $529 and JB4 Pin Out is $349. (Obviously these are online prices that does not take shipping/tax and customs into account)
Can I use the same BMS USB cable with the JB4?
Yes! The USB cable is strongly suggested as many free firmware updates are planned.
We will update this thread with more information as needed!
Now we have not yet had the opportunity to test or explore the many new features of the JB4 but as soon as we get our hands on it, we will give you feedback. Users in the US and EU are reporting a smoother tune which is also more powerful with many new safety, performance & novelty features. :thumb:
We have promised the 135/335 owners in KZN with the support of LALOOSH that we will assist them with the initial testing to ensure the tune is professionally introduced and with the support of Rennzport in that Province. So we expect someone/s in KZN to be very happy customers when the testing kicks off. I will be visiting the Province myself probably mid February to assist Laloosh and most likely to visit some of the other tuners in the region such as FRC. I also look forward to meeting Anile and the chairperson of the BMW club or at least one of the BMW clubs and some other folk. :excited:
Rennzport is hoping that it would be the first stop of a road show to promote our company and some of our key products but also to meet some of the great tuners out there such as Xede & Chiplogic and to encourage and foster product & service links where appropriate.
Your comments, ideas and suggestions are welcome on this thread or any questions about the new JB4.
